About the speaker

Christina Cappello (she/her) is the Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, overseeing programs and volunteers in 16 counties in Northern California. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss and those that struggle with lived experience. AFSP creates a culture that is smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies: funding scientific research, educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention, and supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide.

Christina has been involved with AFSP since 2007, serving as the Nevada Chapter Board Chair and as a member of the National Leadership Council before joining the AFSP Staff in January 2022. Christina comes to AFSP with a decade of experience as a recreational therapist for the state of Massachusetts and many years in the nonprofit sector through her roles at the American Cancer Society and Encircle LGBTQ+ Family and Resource Centers. She is passionate about creating safe spaces to talk about mental health in our community.
