Camden Rotary Club will bring eight bands to town for an afternoon of free musical performances on Wednesday, July 4, for the club’s most ambitious Music by the Sea Independence Day celebration yet.

Concerts in the Camden Library Amphitheatre and Harbor Park will feature everything from bluegrass and folk music to jazz and big band favorites. The music will start at noon and end at 9 p.m., just before spectacular fireworks sponsored by the Camden Area Business Group and other contributors.

Here’s the lineup:

12:00 PM – 1:15 PM -- Three ensembles from Bay Chamber Concerts in Rockport. The Push Farther Project performs original documentary songs based on spoken words, with a sound built on percussion and interweaving voices. Next come the creative sounds of an improv group, Mehrtinhead, made up of members of the Bay Chamber faculty, who will then be joined by students from their music school’s Jazz Ensemble.

2:00 pm to 3:15 pm -- Miners Creek Bluegrass Bandfuses bluegrass with folk, pop, rock, Latin, Appalachian, blues, old timey tunes and gospel. Miners Creek will deliver a wide-ranging program with rich three- and four-part harmonies, driving rhythm and a lot of humor.

3:30 pm to 4:45 pm -- Midcoast Community Band and Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra (MoJO) will join forces to perform modern and traditional big band music, marches, as well as Broadway music– rocking the Amphitheatre with plenty of brass, woodwinds, and percussion.

5:00 pm to 6:15 pm -- The Right Track, a high-energy, 11-piece R&B/Funk/Soul band with horns, strings, drums and vocalists, will make everyone want to dance.

7:45 pm to 9:00 pm -- The Lowdown (David Dodson with John and Rachel Nicholas) brings passion and joy to performing American folks and roots music withgreat harmonies and tasteful arrangements. Back by popular demand, these singer-songwriters will wind up the evening and pave the way for the fireworks over Camden Harbor.

Seating is limited, so bring blankets or chairs. In case of rain, bands will perform in the Camden Opera House.

Contributions from club members, local businesses and others sponsors make these free concerts possible, and the money raised will also help fund the club’s grants to nonprofit organizations in Knox County and Lincolnville. This year’s grant recipients are the Ripple Initiative, Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, Megunticook Watershed Association, Knox County Health Clinic, Camden Area District Nursing Association, Knox County Homeless Coalition, P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center and New Hope for Women.
