wh-4p-olThe 15th Annual Okanogan Omak Rotary Club Wine & Cheese Tasting Event will be held November 9, 2013 starting at 6:00 p.m.  The event will be held at the Okanogan County Fair Grounds Agriplex.  There will be tasting of several wines, beers, coffee, cider and hard cider.  A table full of cheeses, fruit and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be there throughout the evening for you to pare your wines with.  Throughout the evening there will be three silent auctions, a dessert auction and a live auction.  We will also have a wine store for you to purchase wine by the bottle or by the case.  This is the Club's main fund raising project and with the generosity of those in attendance, we generally raise a significant amount of money that is funneled back in to our communities.  We also sell balloons for Polio.  Last year we sent over $2,000 to Rotary International's Polio program.  Please come and join us.  This event has become one of the communities premier events drawing up to 500 people.  We would love to have you join us.

Thank you to all the spouses (Mary, Paige and Marilyn) that brought the delicious potluck items for lunch.   Brent Yusi and Kurt Danison also stopped by.

In October, Rotary clubs around the world observe both World Polio Day and the birthday of Dr. Jonas Salk, who developed the world’s first safe and effective vaccine against this crippling and sometimes deadly disease. We also celebrate the fact that the world is on the verge of eradicating one of the most feared diseases of the 20th century.

Korean sailor makes waves for End Polio Now
Enjoying calm winds and peaceful Pacific waters, Seung Jin Kim dove off his 43-foot sailboat, the Arapani, to swim with some dolphins nearby. The serenity that day near the equator was a stark contrast to the 60 mph winds and 23-foot waves he had to fight around Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America. But Kim, a veteran sailor and member of the Rotary Club of Seokmun, in Chungcheongnam, Korea, expected such challenges when he set out in mid-October on a 25,600-mile journey around the world. In addition to fulfilling a lifelong dream, Kim is using the trip to raise awareness and funds...
