Our guest speaker, Dr Michael Ekow Manuel, Head of Maritime Education & Training (MET) Specialization at the World Maritime University (WMU), will present "Building Global Maritime and Ocean Capacity in a World at the Crossroads."

WMU is a unique institution in the world.  Working from Malmö in Sweden, it has a global impact well beyond its size (both in terms of physical space and number of faculty and staff) and plays a unique and vital role in the maritime and oceans industries. The maritime sector and the world's ocean spaces are indispensable to the attainment of humanity's quest for a sustainable future.  Responsible stewardship of both through quality education for global stakeholders is imperative.

In the talk, we expect to learn how WMU is working to achieve this and why this is important particularly at this time in world history.

Dr. Michael Ekow MANUEL was until May 2013 the Dean of Faculty of Maritime Studies at the Regional Maritime University in Ghana.  Prior to that, he was Head of Research and Consultancy at the same Institution.  He is a Master Mariner and has worked on ships for eleven years culminating in an appointment as Master (Ship Captain).  He holds degrees in Maritime Affairs (MSc.) and Maritime Administration (PhD) from the World Maritime University with ITF and Sheldon Kinney Fellowships respectively.
