One of my favorite movie scenes is the real estate office scence from Glengarry Glen Ross where the character played by Alec Baldwin issues a savage beratement of the sales staff for not closing enough deals and tells Jack Lemmon’s character to put down that cup of coffee because “coffee is for closers!” (if you’ve never seen the movie, you really should). I wanted to implement the same idea at our weekly meetings regarding sales of 50/50 tickets but, apparently, I’m told this flies in the face of #3 of the Rotary Four Way Test - “Will it build goodwill and better friendships?”. So, fear not, the coffee will continue to flow freely.
But seriously, we do need those of you who have not returned your tickets yet to sell them and get them back to Paul Blodgett by May 1st. If it’s easier, you can bring them to a meeting and I will make sure that Paul gets them. There are 500 tickets available for our club to sell and, thus far, we have only 114 sold tickets turned in. We need to pick up the pace as only a few weeks remain.
As you may be aware, state gaming regulations covering charitable organizations prohibit selling raffle tickets online which is why we can’t sell them via a simple link on our website. For those tickets left unsold by members, we are selling them to the public at two outlets: Tiger’s Tale (thank you, Cory Wingerter) and the newly opened Princeton Cafe which is just inside the Princeton Fitness & Wellness Center (thank you, Ed Zimmerman and Tony Parziale).
And back to the aforementioned movie – don’t forget to ABC (Always Be Closing!)
