Rotary Minutes
December 8, 2014
 
 
President Elect Jim opened the meeting at 12:10p with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Bob Gualdoni led the club in singing “America the Beautiful”.  Wendy Haugh gave the invocation.
 
Chris McLogan sold luncheon tickets and took attendance.  Alicia Green sold raffle tickets (Bryan Frank won the daily pot of $41 but neither Dan Nerad, Jim Conley nor Wendy Haugh could extract the Ace of Diamonds.  There are only ten cards left in the deck for next week’s draw).  Mark Cooper greeted.  Mark Anderson acted as Sheriff.
 
Dave Zimmer delivered a meaningful talk on the purpose and use of Paul Harris’ award donations.  He then bestowed new recognition pins on Bryan Frank, Kevin Heintz, Larry Sherman, Steve Volk and Tom Waffen noting that many of these pins were for multiple award gifts. 
 
Linda Hatfield delivered the two-minute update giving us six tips to protect our identity while shopping this holiday season.
 
Wendy Haugh asked for volunteers to drive Fan, our exchange student home from Groves High school.
 
Announcements:
● Chris McLogan announced that the two hour shifts are filling fast for Salvation Army Bell Ringing Saturday, December 13 and 20. 
● Norma Jean Evans announced that Wednesday Girls’ Literacy tutoring starts, December 10 at 11:45a; Thursday tutoring starts at 9:15a, December 11th.  Both classes are at Baldwin School, 1700 Baldwin Rd, Pontiac
● Bill Roy announced that he has food and volunteers for December 15that Hope Warming Center. 
● Pat Grady announced that the Tweener will be on December 29th at Dick O’Dows.  Pat recently distributed toys to Rose Cancer Center at Beaumont Hospital.  Bring toys to the Christmas party or to Pat’s office.  Toys should not be wrapped.
● The Holiday lunch is December 15th.  The DCD choir will entertain.
 
Bob Gualdoni led the Club in singing Smiles.
 
Eric Smith introduced Michael Mallon, Founder, Superhero Training Academy. It challenges youth to find their strength and power through imagination, adventure and creativity by becoming a superhero.  Youth create a character and play the role on a hero’s journey as a way to face challenges and understand themselves.  STA inspires and empowers youth to “be the hero that you are”.
