We are all awaiting the end of the lockdown and a tapering off of that “god for sake’n” zoom and other alternate media ways of meeting our club members.  Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.  Lovely words from Simone Weil 1909–43, the great French essayist and philosopher.  I do appreciate all your attention given to our club and the generous nature of all Rotarians, who a civic minded and have attended the club meetings.  Wonderful to see many club members who were at the recent Market.  Our fortunes will improve as the months speed on.

So, what is happening round the club?

We had a lay week and so not much to report.  I expect that we will be meeting on zoom into February.  Our club has only been noted that Kooyong is awaiting “further orders”

Please show your “generosity” and attend the Remembrance Day Zoom meeting at our usual time on the eve of the Nov 11th.  AGM is coming up as well November 24th.  Board Meeting tonight – might have more to say then.

Australia Day Celebrations -   This is a preliminary notice that the Riverside and Eastern clusters have been awarded a grant from the National Australia Day Council to provide events to engage the community on Australia Day Jan 26, 2021.  The club needs to appoint a National Australia Day Representative from our club to liaise within the 7 clubs to form and manage a celebration of some sort, as to be determined by the clubs.  This is just hot off the press and more information should be coming.  Please see the Bulletin for further information.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Chair - No doubt everyone reads my musings, but there has been no volunteer to follow up this chair.

27ForParkisons’s Walk - COVID lockdown has changed many of the ways that we support our various charities.  A good example is this walk.  Please support or join the “Glenferrie Walkers” consisting of Chris, Helena, Michael, Alex and Lyn, from the Community Services, walking 27 days starting 1st of November. Our club has supported Parkinson’s Australia for many years.  Indeed, some of our members have been stricken with this disease.  See in the Bulletin for details.

“Christmas in the Park” event on Dec 15th.  This may be combined “picnic” with Hawthorn Rotary but depends on the rules for social engagement in December.

Rotary Youth Declaration Form – There are now only 3 recalcitrant members who haven’t filled in their forms.  The fourth has to redo it.  All have promised to ease my burden by doing it.  I always work on the principal that “actions speak louder than words.”

Youth Director – I was anticipating a “rush” for this vital role in our club.  Please consider or I will be tapping you all on the shoulder next year.  A great thanks for all the other directors who have assented to another year as also I have myself.

Polio Walkers – A great thanks for all whom participated.  A record sum was raised.  See Bulletin.

Round the district – Watch the Bulletin for events.
