What makes you optimistic?

That was one of the issues discussed by Victor Perton from the Centre for Optimism (what a great name) at our combined Club  meeting on Wednesday where the Camberwell Rotary Club were our hosts and did it in fine style.

Victor gave us a bubbly and inspiring presentation that included many thought provoking ideas like:
  • the leader is the person you see in the mirror
  • surround yourself with optimists
  • what makes you optimistic
  • optimism is the belief that good things will happen and all will work out in the end
  • health is a major optimistic issue but optimism itself is a key trait in extending health
  • optimists sleep better, more sleep makes you more optimistic
  • if you have an optimistic partner this rubs off on you
  • every great leader is  realistically optimistic
  • it is hard for a pessimistic person to be innovative. Shit happens, just keep going
  • the number one habit for an optimist is to smile
  • my best self - what will I look like in fives years time. This approach will assist in making you more optimistic
  • laugh like an optimist!
Victor suggested that instead of asking you acquaintances "how are you?" and receiving a "good or not bad reply", instead ask "what has been the best thing in your day" and you are likely to receive a much more positive response.

Victor certainly exhibited an air of optimism and was able to enthuse the audience with the same feeling and make for a terrific presentation.
