The meeting last Monday was a full-on affair.
We had a visit by District Governor Grant Hocking and his wife Melissa, the induction of our newest member Pat Poynton and a presentation by staff from the Cancer Council and members of the Hawthorn Boroondara Relay for Life committee and the Mrs Robinson Relay for Life team.
We were very pleased to also have several members of the Yarra Bend Rotary Club and members of the Rotary 4 Bees committee join the meeting. We had so much on that we were unable to have Cathy Macmillan lead us in a sergeants session - apologies to Cathy as she had prepared a very special District Governor orientated session.
Pat Poyton was inducted as a new member of the Club. Pat was joined by her husband Neville, and two of her children Emily and John at the meeting. John McCaskill introduced Pat and we were very lucky that District Governor Grant Hocking was able to provide Pat with her certificate and rotary badge. Congratulations Pat. We look forward to you and your family enjoying a long association with the Club.
Graeme Jacobs, a member of the Hawthorn Boroondara Relay for Life committee thanked the members of the Mrs Canterbury Relay for Life team for an outstanding 10 year continuous involvement with relay for life. Three years ago this team was awarded the Spirit of Relay award for their great work and contribution to the event. Members of the team including Suellen Roberts, past Club member David Robinson and his sons Matt and Stuart also joined us at the meeting.
Nicole Angelou and Cara Davey from the Cancer Council then spoke about the work of the Council providing assistance to cancer patients and research initiatives amongst a host of activities.
Very many thanks to Graeme, Cara and Nicole and members of the Mrs Canterbury team for joining with us to discuss relay for life.
Last Saturday several Club members and friends joined many other enthusiastic walkers at Albert Park for a walk in aid of the End Polio Now project.
Well done to all the walkers and especially Bill Granger who was good to his word and came dressed in a tutu (along with Rosemary and Jenni) for the event.
Sunday was the first day when the Rotary 4 Bees group began selling the bee friendly plants which have been re-potted over the passed weeks.
Hardy volunteers braved the cool but dry conditions at the Camberwell Sunday Market selling the plants which were transported in the DIK truck (many thanks to DIK and Gerry Cross).
Sales were steady and the group looks forward to bigger days when the stall will again be set-up at the market.
