Little Elm ISD prepares to host its 13th Annual Special Olympics Track and Field Meet on Thursday, April 25, 2019. This event has become a staple of the community providing competition for hundreds of athletes. With the growth of the surrounding areas. The event will host more than 320 athletes representing 11 districts including: Frisco, Lake Dallas, Sanger, Lovejoy, Pilot Point, Krum, Prosper, Aubrey, Argyle, Denton, and Little Elm. There will be nearly 300 student volunteers and 200 volunteers from the surrounding community assisting with the events and 1,000s of spectators.
It is a day of excitement, honor, and rewards at one of the largest events of its kind in North Texas! We invite the public to watch as the athletes compete at the Little Elm Athletic Complex (LEAC). To kick off the event, a relay of athletes and unified partners (escorted by Little Elm Police) run the ceremonial torch along a parade route to light the specially-made eight-foot caldron at the LEAC. Athletes compete in two of several dozen different running and wheelchair relays, obstacles, turbo jav, softball and ball throws, shot put, long jump, and standing jump events. Awards and medals will be presented to athletes from four Awards Tents throughout the day.
Games begin at 10:00 a.m. This is a free event to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. Please join Little Elm ISD and surrounding school districts as they compete in track and field events.
