As the most commonly reported tick-borne disease in the United States, Lyme disease has been getting a lion's share of the attention lately. But ticks — the U.S. has almost 100 varieties but only a few bite humans — can be hosts to nearly a dozen other diseases that can be passed on to you and your children when they latch onto your skin.

That's the reason to wear shoes, socks and long pants before heading out to enjoy nature, whether on a hike in the woods or playing in a grassy field in the North Country and Adirondacks. University of Vermont Health Network, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital’s infectious disease specialist, Dr. Keith Collins, will provide an overview of these infections and discuss the most current treatment options.
