Manning the kettle

I have been asked to coordinate the Volunteer Sign-Up Sheet for this year’s annual Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign which is being held at one of the busiest LCBO locations in Brampton.

Funds raised from the Kettle Campaign assist individuals with the necessities of life needed for basic human dignity. Poverty is the root cause that puts dignity out of reach for millions of Canadians, making access to everyday needs, like food, clothing and shelter.

Funds raised through donations made at Christmas kettles help provide direct, compassionate, hands-on service to 1.6 million people each year in Canada, restoring hope and dignity to those who might otherwise remain invisible in society.

Therefore, I am looking for volunteers to act as greeters as customers enter or leave the store. Making eye contact and wishing people a Happy Holiday or Seasons Greeting or Merry Christmas or Good Morning or Good Afternoon is all it takes. Some people may give and some people may not. But the majority will give just because of your big smile and a few kind words.

I have found that dressing the part of a greeter makes it easier for people to donate. Put on a festive Christmas hat, a bright red scarf or some jingle bells. I have attached a picture of my two daughters who dressed up for the part. You cannot believe how much money people donated as they entered and left the store. They were a huge hit with everyone. You can bring your children or grandchildren with you if you like.

The store is located at 170 Sandalwood Parkway E. (corner of Sandalwood & Conestoga) Heart Lake Town Centre, Brampton, L6Z-1Y5. LCBO Store phone (905) 846-4373
