Our speaker was Joshua Cherian, Facilities Manager at the Brampton YMCA who gave his classification talk.

Joshua had very humble beginnings in the southern tip of India, where there was no electricity and supplies were delivered by vendors in boats.
Joshua didn't wear shoes until the age of 15 even though he walked 16 kms a day to school.

Moving to northern India because of his father's job in the military, Joshua continued his studies in the area of Mechanical Engineering.
His first job was in the maintenance department at a hospital in Bombay,(Mumbai) where he rose to the position of Supervisor.
Joshua was determined to learn English - his third language, so worked the night shift,  in order to take English classes during the day.
As his career moved forward in Mechanical Engineering he went from the area of health care to area of tourism with a large beach resort project.

Joshua's next success was the first Bio Tech Facility in India, followed by a high tech project with the first multi national company allowed to  operate in the country,  which required Joshua to learn about broadcasting and multi media.

Joshua's wife had relatives in Canada, and they decided to relocate to Canada for the promise of a good future for his family.
Joshua was ready to do whatever it took to find work in Canada,  studying the Ontario Building code at the library.  His first job was at EMC2 (squared) a storage management company.

All of this was possible because of his considerable Passion - passion for life, passion for success, passion for hard work and passion for Canada.
Joshua demonstrated this passion for Rotary, being the first volunteer to sign up for Rib and Roll .
