Good morning everyone!

A special welcome to:

  • Our two Guest Speakers, Lilly and Hailey, who have both completed the RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) Weekend and are here to share their stories.
  • Phil, the Salvation Army's representative for Caloundra, introduced by James
  • Jan Conti, who is down from the tropics to make sure Gerry behaves himself
We were met at the door by Chris who extended a warm welcome to all.

On the ring of the Seargent, Deb Taylor's bell, the ever capable, cool, calm Chairperson, Anne Rattle declared our meeting open.

Alan Still OAM is still following devastation around the world for the International Toast.  This time stopping in Puerto Rico D7000, in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.  Once again our hearts go out to those caught up in the natural disaster and we pray that Rotary Clubs worldwide are able to contribute to the recovery as needed.

Gorgeous Gordon (he informed me, he is not Grumpy this week), introduced our two Guest Speakers.  It was so refreshing to see the enthusiasm and gratitude exuding from these young girls. Both gave us accounts of their experience with the RYPEN weekend, and what struck a chord with me was just how grateful they were to be chosen and how such a short period of time could have such a profound effect on both girls.  They received an overwhelming ovation and I know all our members are pleased that Rotary has this calibre of youth and leadership to look forward to.
The Three Minutes on Me segment was devoted to one of our more senior Club Members, but one of the most young at heart, Darryl.  As to be expected, Darryl's life has been full of intrigue and entrepreneurship, inherited from his father.  We learnt how Darryl's father instigated Saturday trade in NZ and then sold his grocery store to Woolworths.  We need people like Darryl in the Club.  He has had vast experience in business locally, nationally and internationally and his refreshing sense of humour and dress sense gives us both something to laugh and talk about.

Our Club's major fundraiser for Mental Health is only two weeks away. Australian Rotary Health's Hat Day Event will be a dinner at Pelican Waters Golf Club on Thursday 12 October. The food will be fantastic.  The Speakers, sensational and the Raffle Prizes, riveting.  So please, if you haven't already done so, book your tickets by following this link. Tickets are only $45. Bring along a prospective Rotarian or two and spread the word.

When booking, you will notice you have the opportunity to donate to Australian Rotary Health and/or StandBy Response Service.  Our Guest Speakers at the Dinner will be from StandBy who are a Suicide Support Service based on the Sunshine Coast.

President Peter's address was about Friendship, how valuable it is and how it links into the first Object of Rotary.

Thank you all for your attendance and a reminder that next week we have a Vocational visit to the Sebel Hotel at Pelican Waters.
