From afar ...

Good evening all,

Greeting from the Travelling Pharmacist/ Roving President.  As I sit in my Caravan tonight, I thought I'd continue with some further tips from my report last week.  I spoke about, why we might be attracted to becoming a Rotarian. Here are some further reasons that you might find interesting.

  • Entertainment - Our Club and District has parties and activities that contribute to a diverse, yet professional business life. Examples of these include, Conferences and Social Engagements.
  • Development of Social Skills - Rotary is for people who like people. Each week, and at various events and functions, personality, social skills and people skills are developed.
  • Family Programs - Rotary's Youth Exchange Program is one of the world's largest programs in this area; high school and college Clubs for future Rotarians are developed, opportunity for partner involvement, and a host of activities designed to help family members in the growth and development of family values, are all cultivated by being involved with Rotary.
  • Vocational Skills - Rotarians are urged to take part in the growth and development of their own profession or vocation. By serving on Committees and teaching our youth about vocations, in turn helps to make each Member better at their chosen field.
  • The Development of Ethics - Rotarians practice the 4-Way-Test which governs our ethical standards and in turn we are expected to be ethical in business and personal relationships.
  • Cultural Awareness - Rotary is represented throughout the world, across cultures, races and religions, making it a cross section of the world's most prominent citizens who are aware of this representation and develop a love of working with people from everywhere throughout the world.
  • Nice People - even if we say so ourselves, some of the world's nicest people are Rotarians.
  • Absence of an Official Creed - Rotary is a transparent organisation. We have no secret handshake, no official creed, no secret meetings or rituals. We just love helping people.
  • The Opportunity to Serve - As a Service Club, Rotary's business is mankind and its product is service. This is perhaps the best reason for becoming a Rotarian; the opportunity to do good to others.
I hope you've enjoyed this list of qualities that make a Rotarian.  Our Club is very fortunate, our Members are passionate Rotarians and we love to serve our community.

Enjoy the long weekend and I look forward to seeing you soon.
