Our Travelling Pharmacist sent his apologies (in fact he has a Leave of Absence) from a faraway place, but he does plan to grace us with his presence at the Board Meeting on Monday.  In fact he has been musing and sends this contribution.

Ann Rattle ably took the Chair as befits her experience and welcomed guests to the meeting - Assistant Governor Wendy Gilson (tennis was rained out), Trevor Hodgson from the Albany Creek club, and Peter.

Esteemed Past District Governor - PDG Alan Still OAM - proposed the International Toast to the Rotary Club of Toronto, Ontario, Canada - a club chartered 1 March 1913 having 161 members.  Toronto is hosting this year's International Convention 23-27 June - learn more.

We did not have a Guest Speaker today (as today was Lyn Roberts' last treatment date and Jacqui needed to be with him) but we were treated to a smorgasbord of members beginning with your reporter's 3 Minutes on Me.
In Jim Lombard's last meeting with us for two months (he is heading offshore and will not return until mid-July!), he showed WIN News coverage of the search by the  Men's Shed for new premises.  The story is here but the video link could not be found.  In any event, the news coverage stemmed directly from the publicity generated by Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle.
President Elect Bernie reminded us of:

  • the forthcoming District Assembly - register here
  • the University Community Fund's Awards presentation dinner on 23 May - register here (Remember! - our meeting on 22 May has been cancelled so you can attend)
    • Deb and Pam will willingly accept great Raffle Prizes and gourmandises
  • The unveiling of Unitywater's Community Artwork project at Rotary Park, Duck Holes Creek on 31 May - details here
  • The ClubRunner Clinic next week - Wednesday 16 May - register here
Bernie then led the delegation of Japanese travellers who were introduced by Roger.  The Rotary Club of Komaki's milestone celebrations were of course the focus of the visit, but our plans for the Rotary Peace Park were not far away in the minds of the travellers as they explored Japanese culture, gates, gardens and shrines.  Genta led the travelogue and said five other Rotary clubs were interested in helping with the project and would be visiting in August (with a focus on the Japanese Festival).  There was also interest from the Mayor of Komaki in a Sister City relationship and Genta has given him Sunshine Coast Council's contact details.

Gerry Swan reminded us of Thursday's BBQ in Golden Beach for the Star Pharmacy re-launch. and of his forthcoming absence in Darwin.  Apparentle there is a need for a BBQ organiser for the Bunnings' BBQs in June & July!  See Gerry to volunteer please.

Chris Rees followed up last week's presentation on the Photo Competition - learn more here.  It is coming along nicely and will, hopefully open on 1 July - eight schools have been contacted, and the Arts Centre gave a positive response.  Prizes are needed and Chris is looking for ideas of which businesses might be possibilities - the total prize commitment is around $1,000 in all.  The Sunshine Coast Daily and Ted's Cameras were suggested - but the prizes do not need to be camera-related.

And then there was our Poet-in-residence in the guise of a Sergeant.  He bounced around the room with tales of deeds done well and badly to bring another great meeting to a close.
Remember your tiara and/or Top Hat for next week's meeting - check here for the reminder.
