Project Discussion Night

Prior to the discussion the following items were raised. Community Grants from Federal member Ken Wyatt are available. Upon further investigation it was noted that the promotion for the grant application found in the newspaper is specifically related to Energy Saving projects, and the date for Expression of Interest has already expired.
However, with further investigation Franziska found following link for currently open grant opportunities through the government - Click here.

Laith shared some Rotary Club promotional material from the Bathurst Club, some of this could be adopted in a similar format by our club.

Dee mentioned a project that is new to WA with a possible involvement with new scheme aimed at stimulating the minds of professional people who are now suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. Dee stated some Clubs are already involved in this, by running board room lectures and events for the effected people.

Rotaract President Josh gave an update on their projects. The fire pit, sensory garden, artificial lawn etc have been completed at  Powder Room and they will have an official opening in July. Pres Elect Liam Whiting is setting up a Committee with groups from the local community including the Mayor and RSL to identify local projects where Rotaract can actively be involved in. Rotaract will apply to Volunteering Australia for grants to assist with these projects.

Rotary Club of Kalamunda Changeover is now confirmed.  Thursday 8th July at the Vault Restaurant. The invites will be sent out later this week.

District 9455 Change Over Night is held on Saturday the 3rd of July at 6.30pm at the Burwood on Swan. Click here if you would like to buy your ticket

President Kaye outlined development regarding membership and promotion. The club will engage an external contractor to make the website more appealing to the public, and to design business cards, postcards and posters and directional signage to promote our club.

PROJECTS

With the upcoming fundraisers we will also need to think about what project we would like to support:

In an earlier meeting we identified following projects:

- MyHome Project

- Local Distaster Aid

- Youth Suicide prevention

- Solution for accommodation for Foster Children after they are leaving the system

    - possible organisations: CREATE or TINY HOMES

- Black Cockatoo Breading boxes

- Fit Trail

- Upgrading the lighting of the Shell at Stirk Park

My Home

With very short notice Kay Durrant as a representative of the My Home project organised a stall at our last Markets. Through that three local Primary Schools expressed an interest in doing some fundraising. It was decided that these three schools, namely Pickering Brook Primary School, Helena College and Gooseberry Hill Primary School, will be approached and that an offer would be made that our Club will be matching the funds raised. This will be discussed further at the next board meeting as we will need to cap the amount.
Kay Durrant also supplied a list of what the various amounts of moneys raised could buy. This project fundraiser is a great way to create an active relationship with the local Primary Schools, a relationship that hopefully will lead to other projects in the future.

Share the Dignity

The members agreed that this was a worthwhile initiative and that we would like to have another 'packing day' pre Christmas to support this charity.

Comedy Night

President Kaye & Helen were approached to see if our club would be interested to run a comedy night here in Kalamunda. The group organising the event would take care of all the details, the club's obligations would be simply to hire the venue and to sell the tickets.
The tickets to these events normally sell at about $40-50. The Rotary Club would make about $25 per ticket sold. The event could be held at either the Performing Arts Centre or even at the Lesmurdie Club.
The Rotary Club could make some additional funds from selling drinks and fingerfood on the night.
The members would like to proceed with this event, a date is yet to be set.

Concert at Stirk Park - 20th of November

It was agreed that the Club is organising a concert with a Tribute Band from All Star Show Stoppers featuring songs from the Beatles and ABBA (click here for some of their tunes) on the 20th of November 2021 at the Stirk Park Sounds Shell.
The club will have to arrange security, additional toilets, bins, parking, chairs (or promote picnic& rugs), marketing and ticket sales. ASSS will organise their own people for lighting and sound.
It was mentioned that we should consider to do a dress up competition as well.
Please let Kaye and Helen know if you would like to be part of the organising committee.
