Our speakers and topics this year are;
Georgia Comerford - ‘A Different View of Asylum Seekers’
Zara D’Costa -‘Stemming the Mental Health Epidemic’
Jemma Middleton - ‘The Power of Music’
Each participant may choose their own topic, but the four principles of the Rotary Four Way Test must be explored in the speech:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Georgia Comerford will be speaking on ‘A Different View of Asylum Seekers’. Her favourite subjects are Politics and Law and Italian. She is involved in a wide range of co-curricular activities that include debating, speech and drama, and hockey and she loves to read in her spare time, often exploring historical and political topics. She has volunteered to be a Peer Mentor for younger students and has worked at an Aged Care Respite Centre as well as at op shops for St Vincent de Paul and the Salvos. In her future, she hopes to study Arts/Law at university and become a human rights lawyer.
Zara D’Costa will be addressing the topic ‘Stemming the Mental Health Epidemic’. Her favourite subject at school is English and she has many areas of involvement at school. She plays netball and hockey and has participated in many Performing Arts activities, such as the College Musical and choirs, as well as photography. She has been a Peer Mentor to younger students and attended a ‘Seeds of Justice’ conference and considers Mother Theresa to be one of her role models. Zara has a keen interest in environmental care and has volunteered with Rio Tinto’s Earth Assist. She would like to have the opportunity to travel and teach English in disadvantaged countries to open the doors of opportunity to others. She would also love to continue her passion for writing.
Jemma Middleton will be speaking about ‘The Power of Music’. Jemma loves studying Italian, Drama and Geography. She is a keen singer who has been performing in musical theatre productions at Mercedes and Aquinas and also enjoys dancing. Jemma has been a Peer Mentor for younger students and has volunteered as a worker at Mercy Care Aged Care facility and has worked on projects to restore damaged habitats through Rio Tinto’s Earth Assist. She loves reading and watching television in her spare time. She hopes to find a career that will enable her to pursue her interest in cultural arts and her love of languages.
