Rotary has been very active the past few days.  Thanks to Jaye's enthusiastic encouragement, we once again turned out to serve the breakfast for the Weetbix TRYathlon at the Hutt Recreational Ground.  It's a great children's event and our efforts were certainly appreciated by the organisers.  Thanks to everyone for putting aside the time for what was a brilliantly fine Lower Hutt day.

Then a few days before on Sunday, a small group of us took part in a walk to celebrate 100 years of Rotary changing lives in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

The District obtained one of the centennial batons that were used to symbolise the journey and the story of Rotary in NZ over the past 100 years.  The act of carrying the baton on these paths (bit like the torch making its way to the opening of the Olympics) was an opportunity for local Rotarians to become part of an acknowledgement of this piece of our history.

The baton was 'run' from Wellington airport to Wellington train station on Saturday March 13, then was carried by us up the Hutt Valley, before eventually arriving in Greytown on Friday March 19.  District Governor, Gillian Jones, has also arranged for the baton to connect up with the opening night of the District 9940 Conference.
Assembling at our home at Avalon Park, this group of Wellington Rotarians joined together walking to Trentham Memorial Park, before finishing for lunch at the Fig Tree Cafe, on Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt - a distance of about 11klms.

It was great to catch up with many existing Rotary friends and new friends too, as we walked along the way.  Our club enthusiasts included President Jan Palmer, President-Elect Anne Abbott, Colin Fenton, Jaye Howey and Brian Klee.
