Proctor DECA Announces First Annual "We-CAN-Du" Event
Proctor High School DECA teams up with local architects to raise money for LSS in effort to end youth homelessness in the Northland.
Press Conference to be held at Miller Hill Mall's Barnes and Noble Court
January 31, 2015 at Noon

Duluth, MN Proctor High School’s DECA team has created a fundraising event called “We-CAN-Du” at the Miller Hill Mall the January. The purpose is to raise awareness and money for the non-profit organization: Lutheran Social Service (LSS). LSS is currently running a capital campaign to build the Center For Changing Lives Duluth. The center will house LSS youth programing, with a goal to end youth homelessness. The project will involve three competing teams that will build three sculptures out of non perishable canned food items. Shoppers will have the ability to vote for “Peoples Choice” award by giving a “voting” donation of cash to the sculpture of their choice.

Proctor DECA’s goal for the event is to raise $20,000 for LSS and 5,000 cans for the Salvation Army. The sculptures created will be assembled by three teams of about 10 people, a mixture of Proctor DECA students,UMD Rotaract students, and led by architects. Sculpture designs will have a focus on the cause- ending youth homelessness.

The three sculptures will be placed in different sections of the mall: the Barnes & Noble Court, Center Court, and the JCP Court. For this event cash donations will be counted as “votes”,  the sculpture with the most cash donations will be awarded as winner. An announcement for a winner will take place at the Barnes & Noble Court, 3:00pm on Feb. 8th. Sculpture take-down will be Feb. 10th, so be sure to take part in the event while you can! “Miller Hill Mall looks forward to hosting Proctor DECA’s event in order to help LSS put an end to youth homelessness.”
