A good turnout with 31 Members plus 4 guests, including DG Ingrid and ADG Pam.  A more in-depth summary of Ingrid’s presentation follows, (under "Read More" below,) but firstly a couple of additional notes from the breakfast meeting;

ERK’s:
Penny advised the meeting that the District has confirmed that the Club who contributed the most person hours in the recent packing of the current round of ERK’s , was St. Johns!!  Well done and a big thank you to all who participated.

Letter from St Judes:
It was only two months ago that we received a letter from our sponsored child at St Judes School in Tanzania and this week we received another – great to hear that she is doing so well and is'nt her writing so neat and legible!

DG Ingrid Waugh Presentation:

Ingrid opened her presentation by sharing the Rotary Vision;

“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”

Ingrid is the DG for District 9920 which boasts a total of 52 Clubs and a Primary Goal for her this year is to open what can be seen as the Black Hole between District and the Clubs.  Although we are aware that our Club is very active in many areas, it was great to hear that our Club is held in very high esteem by District.

Sub themes for Ingrid and District this year will be to; “Keep Rotary Real – be Relevant”.  This will be achieved by focusing on four key areas;

  • “Grow Leaders – providing opportunities and mentoring.”
  • “Actively engage in sustainable projects, local and globally.  Support our Foundation and continue to support the eradication of Polio which is still an issue in 13 areas of the world.”
  • “Tell our Stories – publicity and communication.”
  • “Create an engaging member experience doing service.”

Ingrid’s belief is that if we focus on the first three, others will want to come and join us.  St Johns is a strong and vibrant Club, but we must work to retain this position – many other Clubs who have not taken the opportunity to remain strong when they were, have now failed.

This year District 9920 will participate in and benefit from an initiative titled “Rotary Days”, a public awareness initiative.

Ingrid also took this speaking opportunity to promote this year’s District Conference which will be held in Napier 10 – 12 May 2019.  Napier offers a wide range of activities and there will be a great line up of speakers at the conference.  Registrations will open in September and there will be a special early booking offer – watch this space!

Ingrid also allowed time for a Q & A session and there certainly wasn’t any shortage of questions and some great answers.  We look forward to our year with Ingrid as our DG and hopefully we will get more opportunities to meet with you although we acknowledge your huge District commitments.
