The Polio All Trains event took place on Friday 1st November with George on board the first Leg North from Britomart at around 8.00am. It transpired to become a great day with tons of fun and well over the 40 Stations that we were told so at the end after travelling all the lines and arriving back some 12 hours later we were all shattered with our AT Cards all melting with overuse.
Nearly all of our Auckland based Clubs in 9920 were present at their allocated Station with PDG Jenny Herring gathering up the cheques in grand styled we also linked with our 9910 Clubs when we slid into their areas.

We enjoyed the company and support from Simon Bridges and several other politicians along with Miss New Zealand and many of our Rotary leaders all making the day a truly memorable event. We not only collected a significant amount of money from the efforts of both Clubs and individual Rotarians but also achieved huge exposure on social media by way of Facebook etc which for many of us is quite hard to understand.

The bright Red Tee Shirts and the pull up Banners were visible from great distances. They will all be great for next year’s event on October 23rd with planning already underway and some modifications and adjustments to further improve the event. The one learning that was obvious was that those clubs that ran a dedicated Polio Day Event with the local schools enjoyed far more buy in from their members because of that involvement and that’s something that we should organise for next year.

We were met at the Papakura Station and presented with a Cheque from our club for $1750.00 and many thanks must go to Peter Wilcock for his dedication and to Brian Shove for arranging the cheque. Donna Cox jumped on the train and travelled the Pukekohe Return sector and raised some sponsorship and thanks also to Bernie, Brian and Rodger for their great support. A great Team effort and thanks again for the clubs unswerving support, it is well appreciated by the District as well as me personally.

To all my fellow Rotarians and friends, a sincere thank you for your support. From your sponsorship for me Riding the Train we raised over $600.00 toward this wonderful humanitarian project. You are all just great and to PDG’s Ron Seeto and Jenny Herring who were the main organisers, WELL DONE.
