Weekly meeting – Tuesday 19/11/2019
Dr Hiran Thabrew
Child Psychiatrist
Senior Lecturer – University of Auckland
Child and Adolescent Mental Health
Dr Hiran Thabrew is a Child Psychiatrist, Paediatrician, and Senior Lecturer at Starship Hospital and the University of Auckland. He is also Deputy Director of the Werry Centre for Infant, Child, and Adolescent Mental Health at the University of Auckland, and Director of a non-profit organisation for the promotion of children’s mental health called ICAMH.org.
Hiran’s research interests include the early identification and treatment of psychological problems experienced by children and young people with long-term physical conditions (chronic illness), the treatment of eating disorders, psychosis and autism spectrum disorders, school-based mental health, and the use of eHealth interventions to improve the mental health of all children and young people.
Hiran will be talking about the exciting body of NZ research into Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that has followed the Rotary-sponsored visit by Professor Sally Rogers from the USA and Professor Cheryl Dissanayake from Australia earlier this year. He will provide you with an overview of how Downtown Rotary’s support is being put to good use to improve the early identification and care of NZ children with ASD.
