President Chris greeted everyone.

Linda gave a short report. She reported items for the auction are coming in but requested all Rotarians to let her or Kathleen have any items they have received. The auction is in two weeks and the web page needs to be completed, reviewed, and checked by May 31^st. She reminded Rotarians especially those who sent requests by email to follow up a couple of times with their donation requests.

 

Bingo will take place on Sunday evening, May 16. Several Rotarians have volunteered to help. Volunteers are asked to gather by the Boston Pizza entrance around 4pm to help with the setting up before the crowd gathers for buying Bingo sheets at 5.30pm.

Bingo starts at 7pm so volunteers will  be able to leave around that time.

 

 

Program-chair Gerry introduced his guest speaker Carol Anstey from Deer Lake. Carol is the owner of the ReMax franchise on the west coast and oversees four offices. 

She began by talking about her life and her philosophy including the mantra-“To grow and to learn one needs to listen.”

She then went on to discuss her thoughts on the Real Estate Market in general and in the local market. Carol is planning to run as the Conservative candidate in the next federal election.

Her success running 4 offices and 25 agents of which they have 70-75% of the market share, is built on working hard, giving back to the community and being a leader in social media. She is a non-selling broker who supports her agents and mentors them in understanding the current pricing and market. Carol continued talking about the current local market and how over the years the market has changed. Now the demand for homes is high with property being sold at or above the asking price. Several factors are affecting this including low interest rates and through covid no travelling is being done.

She went on to discuss how these higher prices benefit the economy.

She finished her talk by talking why she is interested in entering politics and one of her 

driving concerns is to enable her children to have a strong future in Newfoundland.
