PP Vivienne attended the District 9675 Annual Conference on the 20 March to showcase one of Maroubra Rotary Club’s overseas projects, WeftShop.
Weftshop is a not-for-profit Fair Trade organisation, supports refugee women artisans on the Thai Burma border.
Our Club supports the artisans to make products that sell more readily in a Western market. Weftshop helps to preserve the cultural values of the artisans and at the same time with the sale of products in Australia, to provide them with a fair wage. This reduces their vulnerability to people trafficking, helps the women to educate their children and sometimes to gain access to paid work with the purchase of work visas.
