The Rotary Club of Hondo, Amakusa, Japan held a bushfire fundraising activity on February 22nd. The aim of the activity was to raise money, through donations, for native animals injured in the recent bushfires. The fundraiser was first suggested by Ayame Hasumoto, who was the club's last exchange student to the Rotary Club of Eltham, in August 2019. Hondo Rotary Club members all agreed to help her out with her idea. Rotarians, Interact members and student volunteers took part in the activity. Volunteer students from Amakusa High School, Amakusa Technical High School, Takushin High School and Hondo Nursing School stood with boxes to collect money in four locations at shopping malls and supermarket entrances.

The Rotary Club of Hondo will send the money raised to RCE, with instructions to give the money to an appropriate animal rescue organisation.
