Introduction of The Rotary Club of Eltham 2020-2021 Board.
It is a proud moment to present to the Club my Board for the year 2020-2021.
The year 2020/21 finds me taking over the reins of a thriving Club. The standard set comes largely as a result of President John’s amazing year. It is reassuring that John in his capacity as immediate Past President will be there to help me maintain the great standard that he has put in place.
Due to the pandemic we have had to make many changes in the way we operate. Meetings will continue via Teams and Zoom for the foreseeable future. Thanks to Sally and all who have contributed to enable this to happen. But as soon as we can operate face to face, socialize and enjoy dinner together, we will.
I am very fortunate that most of the current board have agreed to continue in my year, their know how, knowledge and experience will be invaluable in the tough times ahead.
Unfortunately, Alison Cooper will stand down due to work demands and health issues. Fortunately, Alison has agreed to stay involved in supporting Gary. We are all very grateful for Alison’s years of brilliant contribution, and I am personally grateful to Alison for her ongoing input in the coming year.
Over the last two years, Michael Martin has had to juggle the books, he has been meticulous and thorough in managing the Clubs funds. Our very strong financial position comes largely as a result of Michael’s skills, the Club is in a strong financial position to tackle my year ahead. Note we will have very little income over the next twelve months. Thank you, Michael, for your contribution.
I welcome Gary Williams and Lou Bolzonello to the Board. They have had Board experience in the past and will further strengthen the management of the Club.

In addition to the board I would like to develop a formal supporting structure. We are a large Club and Board members work hard for the community, a lot of members support and contribute in many other roles on committees etc. I would like to see these roles officially recognised.
We need a deputy member to step in as an understudy in the Board’s roles. For example, an understudy to back up Jules with Membership and another to support Paul in Community Service. Deputies would be invited to board meetings and could participate in discussions where appropriate.

The next 12 months will be a challenge, and we will do things differently through necessity. In spite of any restrictions we are a vibrant Club full of achievers, and we will continue to support the Community and have a lot of fun making it happen.
