Attendance:  19 members and two guests

Guest Speaker:  Patricia Mueller, Executive Director, Homes First

Patricia Mueller spoke on Housing in Toronto for Those who can Least Afford It. That is the work of Homes First which, on revenue of $17 million in 2018, provided supportive housing, food, and medical and social services in 13 properties to 362 people who would otherwise have been in hospitals or on the streets.  In addition  there were almost 125,000 nights of emergency shelter and over 400,000 meals served.  Government funding was $15.2 million, with the balance from fees and donations. See more at homesfirst.on.ca.

Patricia, after 20 years leadership in supportive housing, was extremely knowledgeable about housing needs and costs, answering many questions from members present. The monthly cost of housing at Homes First ($1,545) compares with the much higher cost in a provincial jail cell ($9.420) or hospital ($13,950)

Patricia was introduced by Norma, thanked by David CS, Co-Chairs, RTE Community Service Committee.
