Speaker This Week October 30: Lena Gilbert, 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of Dachau: A Daughter's Perspective. Lena’s parents Jack and Ann Gilbert met at a concentration camp in 1948 and emigrated to Cedar Rapids in 1949. Lena’s dad had been in concentration camps for over 5 years, and her mom for over 4 years.
She was planning a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau camp, which happened on April 29, 1945. Due to Covid, she has postponed this to 2021.
“I continue to want to honor not only my parents’ survival but the brave acts of others, the liberators, and people that were helpful once my parents were liberated,” she said.
