Roll A Hippo!

Luke Vorstermans is the Past President of the Rotary Club of Gibsons and the Chair of
their club’s International Service Committee.

In 2016, the club launch the Help Us Roll 1000 Hippos Campaign that quickly rolled
out across Canada and the USA. Over the last five years, Luke actively sought
participation from Rotary clubs and District resulting in over 145 Rotary clubs getting
involved in fundraising and delivering 2600+ hippo rollers to impoverished women in
Southern Africa.

In response to the COVID, the club bundled Survival Garden Kits with the hippo rollers
to help vulnerable women start vegetable gardens and create food security. Along with
partnering with RC Winnipeg, and RC Hillcrest, South Africa, over 820 rollers and
garden kits have been delivered to rural South African communities.

Recognizing the power of Zoom to expand the awareness of this collaborative Rotary
project, Luke has made Zoom a big part of his life!
