International Services

International Services

Rotarians are encouraged to advance their international understanding and acquaint themselves with people of other cultures, learning about their customs, aspirations, and challenges.  We promote peace, educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases like polio, HIV/AIDS, and malaria, support local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, and strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy.

International Projects

The Rotary Club of Pickering has supported several international areas.  Most notably are the Adopt a Village in Laos (AAVIL) which is a water project dedicated to bringing permanent water into villages, as well as hygiene training with water filter distribution and hygienic toilets in rural villages of Laos, and the Ape Action Africa project which is a great ape sanctuary addressing the immediate threats faced by gorillas and chimps in Africa, and works with communities to develop long-term solutions to ensure their survival in the wild.  In addition they provide education to local children, teaching them about conservation, science and environmental issues through our sponsoring of their education program.  We have also supported the Africycle project in Malawi, the Socio-Economic & Environmental Development Solutions project in Zambia, and the Days for Girls project which has a massive global reach.
