GUEST SPEAKER:

Past Pres. (Oshawa) Margaret Wallace introduced Samantha George, Curator of Parkwood Estate. Samantha graduated from Algonquin College and York University and has been here at Parkwood for the past seventeen years. Samantha has been part of the planning/redevelopment of Parkwood returning bit by bit to its' original state. She showed pictures and told stories of life at Parkwood. She has learned much from research, as well as connecting with family members and others who visited and/or worked here - Parkwood was 55 years a family home and for the past 45 a museum. She has recently been connected to the youngest grandchild (83 yrs old) who lives in California, is a Rotarian and plans to attend the 2018 International Convention in Toronto. Over the years many items have been returned to Parkwood by family and others. Each of these is researched and placed (if possible) in the original site within the mansion.

Samanthas' enthusiastic presentation contained many more facts, plans, and tidbits, too numerous to mention. She encouraged us to visit and tour to see the many areas being renovated and reopened to the public. She will be one of our guest speakers later in our Rotary year. Samantha thanked the more than 100 volunteers who help to make all of this possible. Parkwood is often used as a movie set and is also involved in projects with Colleges and Universities.

Janice Coupland (Oshawa-Parkwood) thanked Samantha for her presentation noting the value of having Parkwood Estate

The meeting ended on a high note with 50/50 ticket winner Michael Adams donating his winnings ($240) back to the Foundation. Consolation prizes included two deck umbrellas, two Parkwood prints and fifteen Parkwood tour passes.
