INDUCTION CEREMONY:

 

The invited both Linda and Lennis to the front to assist in the induction of our newest Rotarian Dr. Colin Carrie.

 

Ted welcomed Colin to the Club. Ted provided an overview of Rotary history and it’s international significance and the men and women who make a difference in the world.

 

Ted gave Colin his new member kit along with his name badge. Then Lennis provided Colin with a copy of the 4-way test and a copy of the objects of Rotary.

 

Linda provided Colin with his Rotary Pin.

 

Ted gave Colin an Oshawa-Parkwood Banner so that he might hang it in his Office in Ottawa.

Colin was offered to say a few words as the newest member of Oshawa-Parkwood. Colin reflected that he is honoured to join our (his) Rotary Club. He is looking forward to participate as actively as possible. He never realized just how much good Rotary does both in our local communities and world wide.

Speaker’s Remarks:

Ted gave an overview of the 2018 Rotary International Council on Resolution. In 2018 some 55 resolutions were submitted for consideration. Of the 55 submitted resolutions 27 were adopted (22 by the Rotary International Board and 5 by the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation).

The following is a partial list of the adopted resolutions:

1. reaffirm the importance of Service in the Objects of Rotary

2. provide a club guide for mandatory and discretionary practices

3. recommend that clubs display the 4-way test

4. publish a manual outlining the method for entering club data on Rotary Club Central

5. report all volunteer hours (111.2 million hours)

Etc.

 

The following are some of failed resolutions:

1. all club meetings begin with reciting the 4-way test

2. the minimum number of members in a club be 20 memebers

3. clubs create a regional constitution

4. recognize EarlyAct clubs

5. raise Rotaract age to 35

Etc.
