FUNDRAISING:

FUNDRAISER # 1:  2020 CAKES AND HAMS:

Ted Morrison, is our Chair, again this year, for what may be our big fundraiser this year. We need funds to help those in our communities who need it the most. Timing is crucial.

Deadline for ordering was NOVEMBER 15. Note : we are sold out. Thank you everyone. And our profit is $2,565 for our community projects. Thank you for getting your money in to Bill Creamer . You can send in your money to Bill by e-transfer.

FUNDRAISER # 2:  CHRISTMAS TREE SALES AT OSHAWA CENTRE – BACK ON:

We thank the Oshawa Centre, Oshawa Rotary Past President and Chair of the event, Emmy Iheme, and President Sue for all of their planning and kind invitation to join them.. THE SALE IS BACK ON AT THE OSHWA CENTRE. 25 trees left as of Dec 7, at 8 pm. The Oshawa Centre will allow us to set up in the northwest parking lot near the old Sears store. We have been asked by the Rotary Club of Oshawa to re-join them in selling Christmas trees , outside, every day from Dec 2 to 24, (or until we sell out) with the shifts Monday thru Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Our goal: Sell 125 trees, with profits of $3,000 split between our two clubs. Trees will come wrapped from Prestonvale Tree farm (same supplier that RC Bowmanville uses) – different kinds of trees at different selling prices.  We will need everyone in our club to help. And we can use and need students too who would like to volunteer and receive their community hours. President Sue will be calling you to ask you to volunteer and she has sent to all of us the updated volunteer time and date list. (all outside). Thank you all. Lots of fun and friendship between our clubs.  We need a generator for the lights. Help. And we need volunteers to help sell. Shifts are as follows: Dec 2 to 24 Monday thru Saturday (11 am to 2 pm: 2 pm to 4:30 pm and 4:30 pm to 7 pm: And on Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm; 1 pm to 3:30 pm and 3:30 pm to 6 pm) .  Very popular community service  - we have families that don’t have enough money for a tree this year. You may donate a tree to them we will deliver.  Only 22 left for sale as of Dec 8 at 8 pm.

FUNDRAISER # 3:  DINNER ORDER & PICKUP FROM BISTRO 238:

President Sue and her committee are looking at having a VIRTUAL DINNER with Bistro 238 in the near future (likely in the new year).  It may even be on an ongoing basis, every two weeks. This will be pick up and / or delivery. We will need volunteer drivers for one evening, every two weeks. Please let President Sue know as soon as you can. Lots to planning taking place for this new fundraiser. We need your help. Be sure to check out the Bistro 238 website for a sample of their offerings: https://www.bistro238.com/.

ROTARY CLUB FUN NIGHT # 2 ON ZOOM -  DECEMBER 15 AT 7 PM - GAMES NIGHT AT OSHAWA-PARKWOOD:

Ana Rejab is setting up for us a games night. Here’s Ana to tell us how it will work:

Hello fellow Rotarians and spouses ! Do you remember playing the "Alphabet Game" on long road trips? Do you remember playing "Guess Who?" So many of you have worked so hard because Rotarians are do-ers! Shall we have a night to have fun over zoom while also contributing a small amount to our chapter? $5 per person to join in the game:  (please e-transfer $5 per person to treasurer Bill by DEC 12 at the latest.) winner takes 3/5 of the pot. You can send in your money to Bill by e-transfer. The address of the e-transfer is  parkwoodrotaryacct@gmail.com and make sure the answer to the question is oshawa. Let's start the night with "Guess Who?" Ana will assign a famous person to each person joining via direct email. On that night, we will take turns to be in the spotlight. Each participant can ask one question to the one in the hot seat. The one in the spotlight will only answer "Yes" or "No". After all of us have had our turn in the spotlight, we write down our answers and reveal at the same time. The top 5 will proceed to the next level - the "Alphabet Game". Highest scorer(s) will go first.  I will name the latter and category. Each contestant will name something in that category that starts with the said letter, 10 seconds per contestant. We will carry on until all but one is eliminated. Spouses are certainly invited. If you want them to be part of the game, then they will have to put $5 into the pot too.

CHRISTMAS REMEMBRANCES:

Hilda Finnigan has delivered to 12 friends of Rotary this year, our annual good cheer at Christmas time with poinsettias. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with this act of kindness.

GUEST SPEAKER:

So nice to see so many friends on the call tonight.   2 great games tonight. The Naughty List – Winner – Kris Sachdeva. The Christmas Quiz – Winners -  First Place to Patti Koski and second place to Robbie Larocque.  Fantastic gift baskets as prizes. Thank you to Sue and Jan for all of your hard work.

CHRISTMAS MEMORIES:

Patti Koski – Bob’s visit to Patti at Christmas in Winnipeg, Bob had to sleep in a very cold bedroom with no heat. Brrr.

Dave  -  Reminisced about our first community service project – putting up Christmas lights on the three big trees at Parkwood. A very cold project.

Bob Koski – remembers another Rotary project – selling Christmas trees at Larry Dupuis; Flea market out in the cold and snow . The snow was coming off the roof. Bob was covered the whole afternoon.

Kris – Remembers a Christmas eve party in the UK when he was a bachelor. The party ended well into the night and the fog was so bad, they went the wrong way on the highway .  Got to back to the hospital Christmas morning.

Jan – remembers her time at the TV station in Peterborough and the donations they got for needy families and helping deliver them to this families. Such a warm feeling at Christmas.

NOTE: Our very own Rotary Club member, Dr. Colin Carrie will be speaking in Parliament tomorrow, talking about the Rotary Clubs in Oshawa and all that we do at this time of year. Watch on CPAC about 2 PM.
