Janice Coupland – Tickets are still available and we encourage everyone to do their best for one last minute push to sell  tickets for the September 15 Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood First Annual Fashion Show – RUNWAY FOR ROTARY, from 1 to 4 PM, at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. This is a non alcohol event. Food is coming from 3 fine restaurants (Chatterpaul’s, Bella Note, and Shrimp Cocktail), and desserts from The Bakers Table, and even some foods from We Grow Food, our speakers, just a few weeks ago. There will be door prizes, gift cards with 20% off from the two fashion sponsors, and a jewelry gift from Tina Lee for each person too. Fantastic music by DJ Concepts. The runway will consist of 8 female and 2 male models wearing fall fashions from Laura and Verona Suits.  Tickets are $50 per person and available from Dave Andrews. Payable by cash, cheque or credit card. The first 50 are already out being sold by the committee. NOTE: PLEASE TURN IN ALL OF YOUR MONEY ON SEPTEMBER 10 AT THE LATEST.   

 

Rotary Foundation Director David Penney – We had 10 walkers walking in the September 8 District 7070 Rotary Foundation Walk. Over $141,000 was raised. Please remember that anyone can contribute to The Rotary Foundation anytime. It is never too late to donate. Please pledge and donate to The Rotary Foundation. The District 7070 Rotary Foundation Walk took place on Sunday Sept 8 at Humber College (Lakeshore Campus), 2 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive, Toronto.  We joined with fellow Rotarians and with friends and family for the annual District 7070 walk in support of the Rotary Foundation. Lots of photos on the District 7070 Website and on the District 7070 Facebook Page.  And remember our goal of A MILL FOR BILL. Clubs should submit one cheque per club directly to Rotary Foundation: Rotary Foundation (Canada), c/o 911600, PO Box 4090 STN A, Toronto, ON M5W 0E9.

REMINDER: for every Dollar that you personally donate, anytime during this Rotary year, to the Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund, our Rotary Club will match that amount to a maximum of $3,200 USD. Remember our goal “ A Mill for Bill”.

 

David Andrews - October 24 – World Polio Day – Please REGISTER AS SOON AS YOU CAN. SIGN THE LIST OR SEND DAVE AN EMAIL TODAY. THE EVENT: 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm -  joint meeting of Durham Region Rotary Clubs in the new Global Classroom in the new Centre for  Collaborative  Education at Durham College where we will celebrate World Polio Day with leaders from around the world.   Cash bar and  sandwiches will be served. Cost ($30.00) per person (a portion will be donated to The Rotary Foundation's Polio Eradication Initiative and will credited to your next Paul Harris Fellow.) Spouses, guests and prospective members and all clubs in District 7070 are invited. We will see the live Rotary International livestream event and we will also livestream our event live to Rotary Clubs and to Universities and colleges worldwide.  All clubs in the District are invited. Proclamations from City and Region to our clubs. Dr. Bob Scott, immediate past chair of Rotary’s PolioPlus Committee (worldwide) will be our keynote speaker and he will connect with  Dr. Tunji Funsho, chairman of Rotary's Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee and others from around the world . REGISTER TODAY. There will be others speaking too about their experiences with polio in their countries.

David Andrews: Sept 24 - District Governor Beth Selby’s Official Visit to the Rotary Cubs of Oshawa, Bowmanville, Courtice and Oshawa-Parkwood is at the Oshawa Golf Club at 6:30 pm SHARP. Fellowship half hour from 6 to 6: 30 pm. DG Beth will meet with the Board of Directors at 5:00 pm . Register with Dave as soon as you can. Is your spouse or a guest coming? We need your commitment by Sept 17 at the very latest.

David Andrews - October 3 – Canada Votes 2019 Debate of the Federal Oshawa Riding Candidates conducted by the Media of Oshawa,  at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club. 6 PM to 7 PM – fellowship hour ; 7 PM to 8 PM Candidates Debate; 8 to 8:30 PM – Candidates available to answer your questions. Admission: No charge . Cash Bar available. Members of the two Rotary Clubs in Oshawa (and their guests) and members of the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club (and their guests) are invited. Debate will be broadcast live by Rogers TV Oshawa. Seating is limited to approx. 100 guests. To reserve your seat, please email Dave Andrews at dave.f.andrews99@gmail.com . Debate will be October 3 at the golf club.

Dave announced that we are assisting the Rotary E Club of Southern Ontario / Western New York sell the “Big Game 54 “ lottery tickets. They are all out in the members hands. If you have any not yet sold, we could sure need them to seel on Sept 24 DG Visist and on Oct 24 World Polio Day. The selling price is the same as last year- 5 tickets for $20. The prizes remain the same. First prize has 2 tickets to the Big Game 54 in Miami on Feb 2, 2020 PLUS 4 nights accommodation in Miami PLUS $1,000 US. The second prize is $1,000 US, the third prize is $500 US, the fourth prize is $300 US, and the fifth prize is $200 US. All tickets must be sold by mid November. NO EXCEPTIONS. Get your tickets from Dave (if he has any left). Sell, sell, sell - $1.00 from each ticket sold goes to our Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood. We are SOLD OUT. PLEASE BRING ANY UNSOLD TICKETS BACK FOR OTHERS TO SELL. THANK YOU.. 

 

REMINDER:  Volunteers needed for Hallowe'en and Christmas events at the Kids Safety Village: HALLOWE’EN HAUNT AT THE KIDS’ SAFETY VILLAGE: October 25 and 26 at the Kids Safety Village from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kids Safety Village, 1129 Athol St., Whitby. This is an S.O.S to our club members: many of our club members will be at the Rotary District Conference at the same time. We will need about 8 volunteers from our Rotary Club on both nights (if you are not  going to the District Conference). AND we will need at least 6 volunteers to help on Saturday Oct 18 (date and time to be confirmed) to set up the haunted maze and other things at the Safety Village from about 9 am to 2 pm. Please volunteer and let Sue MacKinnon know if you can help.  More details will follow when we can confirm the exact time and date of the set up.

REMINDER from Treasurer Devon Biddle – Club dues are due. We are ready at the Front Desk to take your money (Annual Dues are $210 and as an option, you may wish to contribute to The Rotary Foundation (perhaps $100 – just a suggestion ) and to the Polio Fund (perhaps $20 – just a suggestion).
