President Sue opened the meeting by reading a poem and asked us all to take a moment of silence and remember all those who risked their lives fighting for Canada in our armed forces as we embark on tomorrow, Remembrance Day 2020.

PRESIDENT SUE ANNOUNCED:
OUR REGULAR WEEKLY MEETINGS WILL NOT BE AT THE OSHAWA GOLF CLUB UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. We will let you know when that may happen. As it stands right now, the Oshawa Golf Club is not hosting any outside organizations (such as ourselves) at the present time.
DUES ARE DUE: You have all received an invoice from our Treasurer, Bill Creamer, for the 2020-21 Rotary Dues. There are still 7 or 8 members who have not paid. The Annual Dues will be $230.00. At the same time, you will have the option to make a donation to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund of $100 and a donation to The Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Funds for $20 (or more if you wish). You will be credited towards your next Paul Harris Fellow Award. Please pay your dues promptly when you get your invoice, by mailing or dropping off your cheque (or cash), payable to the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood, to 96 King Street East, Oshawa L1H 1B6. Thank you everyone. We have already paid our semi annual invoice from Rotary International and our dues to District 7070. Now we need your help. MEALS ON WHEELS: – Volunteers Are Still Required - We need help, members. Bill and Sue have been the only ones helping so far. And Jan has helped too. Please contact Bill or Sue if you can help. This is a commitment we have as a Rotary Club to ensure the success of this very important community service. Monday is our day to volunteer.
BULLETIN EDITORS REQUIRED: Volunteers Are Still Required -We need help, members. Past President Hilda Finnigan is asking everyone in the club to volunteer for a month and write the Club Bulletin. August was looked after. Thank you, Janice Coupland and Kris Sachdeva for August. Thank you, Ted Morrison for doing September. Since NO ONE else has volunteered, Janice has volunteered again to do the bulletin in October. (Editor’s note: It is time for more club members to step up and do your duty – volunteer). Thank you, Hilda, for November. And David Penney has offered to help too. We still need editors for December 2020 through June 2021. Please let Hilda Finnigan know as soon as you can.

Hear from some D7070 Clubs that are successfully Growing Rotary in the current situation. We encourage at least 3 members from a club to attend so you can share the discussion and work on plans integrating Membership, Public Image and Foundation in your growth strategy.

District 7070 Rotary Foundation Committee Members Still Wanted!!! – Bob Wallace is still looking for new members for the District Foundation Committee to help spend our Rotary District 7070’s money (grant money that is). BINGO AT THE RED BARN RETURNS: NEXT ONE: To Be Announced
Our next BINGO is To Be Announced - Doors open at 5:45 PM. - We Need to be there by 5 PM. Note: Only 4 volunteers at the Bingos at the present time: ONE Banker. TWO front desk Sales People and ONE U Pick Em Sales Person. Please see Hilda or Sandy as soon as possible if you can be on a team. We need your support.
Bingo Volunteers Are Still Required Ongoing basis – Teams Being Set Up - We need help, members. Please let Sandy know if YOU are available for future Bingos. Things are different under COVID-19. With only 2 bingo sessions a day, we may only get one bingo per month. Stay tuned.
Here is a note from the Red Barn:
As part of stage 3, upon opening, we will only be permitted 50 customers per session. This restriction, although keeps everyone safer, makes it very difficult to operate our regular bingo schedule. Please be patient with us in this introductory phase as we anticipate opening with 2 events per day (12:30 pm and 6:45 pm) with new programs that must be geared towards smaller crowds due to the temporary capacity restrictions. We have applied for a special request to increase the number of patrons permitted in the hall and we shall give you an update as soon as we have one. Please know that we are working very hard towards opening and offering a product that is acceptable to you until things get back to normal.
PLEASE NOTE: Doors will be opened at 11:30 am for our 12:30 pm session and 5:45 pm for the 6:45 pm session.
The Snack Bar will be closed until further notice but we have installed Vending Machines with Cold and Hot Beverages and Snacks for your convenience.
The health and wellness of our customers, charities, and staff are paramount. Upon arrival, customers will be greeted by an attendant at the front entrance to ensure social distancing is adhered to. Please note that if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath; or if you have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days; or if someone you are in close contact with tested positive for Covid 19; or if you have been told to self-isolate by a medical professional or Public Health, we apologize but you will not be permitted to enter the premises.
Other Precautions in effect:
Promoting Social Distancing by managing traffic flow throughout our hall.
Customers, Staff and Charity Volunteers are asked to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet whenever possible.
Customers will be seated 6 feet from each other.
Sneeze Guards are placed at all selling stations.
Sanitizing Stations have been implemented throughout the hall. Please use the provided hand sanitizer when entering the building and we encourage you to clean hands frequently with soap and warm water or hand sanitizer.
Regular cleaning/disinfecting of all surface areas. Table tops and chair frames will be thoroughly cleaned/disinfected in between bingo sessions.
All staff and charity volunteers are required to wear masks or face coverings.
Customers are required wear masks or face coverings at all times while in the hall. If you do not have your own mask one will be provided for you.
Restroom have enhanced automatic capabilities.

Red Barn Management and Staff
KIDS SAFETY VILLAGE – BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEETING NOTES - was held on November 9 at the Kids Safety Village. It was decided not to have Christmas at The Village this year due to the COVID-19 restrictions and our concern for the safety of the kids and their parents. It was also decided to allow the Durham Region Police Service use the Village as a drop off point for all of the citizens of Durham Region to drop off food and toys for the annual DRPS Food and Toy Drive. Christmas food and toy collection * collects non-perishable foods and new unrwrapped toys for those in need in Durham Region * cash and gift cards so food and toys can be purchased * distributed to Durham agencies such as Simcoe Hall Settlement House and Salvation Army * need teen gifts for both boys and girls, toiletries. Donations can be dropped off at any DRPS Division and Headquarters in Whitby or any Fire Station in Ajax, Clarington, Oshawa, and Whitby, and this year, at the Kids Safety Village.
Here is an opportunity for you to drop off food and toys to support this community service program during the holiday season. Watch the media for dates and times for the Village to be open to take your donations.
SHARON’S KIDS BREAKFAST ANNUAL CHARITY BREAKFAST LIVES ON – DECEMBER 5:
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Bring an unwrapped gift & your ‘Drive-Thru Breakfast’ is compliments of The Crooked Uncle, 1180 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa . Check out: www.thecrookeduncle.com. The Crooked Uncle is located on a corner lot. Entry from Simcoe Street will be restricted. Please plan to enter coming eastbound down Orchardview Boulevard towards Simcoe St. You will be directed into the parking lot of The Crooked Uncle to drop off your gift and receive your breakfast. FUNDRAISER # 1: 2020 CAKES AND HAMS:
Ted Morrison, Chair, again this year, for what may be our big fundraiser this year. We need funds to help those in our communities who need it the most. Timing is crucial.
Deadline for ordering is NOVEMBER 15, Delivery will be first week of December. We really need everyone in our club to double their efforts and reach out to more than who we sold to in previous years.

Cakes: $25 each. 2.8 lb holiday fruit cake in a cardboard box with a Rotary sticker. order with Ted Morrison by November 22. Pick up Nov 30
Hams: $30 each. 2 kg Black Forest ham, in the plastic bag from Brandt Meats. order with Ted Morrison by November 15. Pick up Nov 30. Note: If COVID-19 affects the western Canada suppliers again this year, we may not be able to deliver.

FUNDRAISER # 2: CHRISTMAS TREE SALES AT OSHAWA CENTRE:
President Sue introduced Emmy Iheme , Past President of the Oshawa Rotary Club who gave us all some details for another big joint fundraiser with the Oshawa Rotary Club ( 2 great clubs – another great project) for December 4 thru Dec 24 at the Oshawa Centre, outside, WINTERLUDE. We have been asked by the Rotary Club of Oshawa to join them in selling Christmas trees , outside, every day from Dec 4 to 24, with the shifts Monday thru Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Our goal: Sell 100 trees, with profits of $3,000 split between our two clubs.. Trees will come wrapped from Prestonvale Tree farm (same supplier that RC Bowmanville uses) – different kinds of trees at different selling prices. We will need everyone in our club to help. And we can use and need students too who would like to volunteer and receive their community hours. President Sue will be calling you to ask you to volunteer. It is anticipated that each shift will be 3 hours (all outside). The shift list is being developed as we speak. Thank you all. Lots of fun and friendship between our clubs. Trees to be protected by Oshawa Centre Security.
FUNDRAISER # 3: DINNER ORDER & PICKUP FROM BISTRO 238:
President Sue and her committee are looking at having a VIRTUAL DINNER with Bistro 238 in the near future (likely in the new year). It may even be on an ongoing basis , every two weeks. This will be pick up and / or delivery. We will need volunteer drivers for one evening, every two weeks. Please let President Sue know as soon as you can. Lots to planning taking place for this new fundraiser. We need your help. Be sure to check out the Bistro 238 website for a sample of their offerings: https://www.bistro238.com/. Sue has established a committee to look into it: Jan, Tim, Ana, Sue, Dave A, Dave P and Linda. Details to follow.

ROTARY CLUB FUN NIGHT # 2 ON ZOOM - DECEMBER 15 AT 7 PM - GAMES NIGHT AT OSHAWA-PARKWOOD:
Ana Rejab is setting up for us a games night. Here’s Ana to tell us how it will work:
Hello fellow Rotarians! Do you remember playing the "Alphabet Game" on long road trips? Do you remember playing "Guess Who?" So many of you have worked so hard because Rotarians are do-ers! Shall we have a night to have fun over zoom while also contributing a small amount to our chapter? $5 to join, (you can e-transfer that to treasurer Bill.) winner takes 3/5 of the pot.
Let's start the night with "Guess Who?". I will assign a famous person to each person joining via direct email. On that night, we will take turns to be in the spotlight. Each participant can ask one question to the one in the hot seat. The one in the spotlight will only answer "Yes" or "No". After all of us have had our turn in the spotlight, we write down our answers and reveal at the same time.
The top 5 will proceed to the next level - the "Alphabet Game". Highest scorer(s) will go first. I will name the latter and category. Each contestant will name something in that category that starts with the said letter, 10 seconds per contestant. We will carry on until all but one is eliminated.
Spouses are certainly invited. If you want them to be part of the game, then they will have to put $5 into the pot too.
TED MORRISON REMINDER: NOVEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH:
Ted encourages all of us to focus on the importance of the activities and the importance of donating to the Rotary Foundation, both to the Annual programs Fund and to the Polio Fund (Bill Gates matches the Polio donation 2 to 1). CHRISTMAS REMEMBRANCES:
Hilda Finnigan has a list of 12 this year, that we annually bring good cheer to at Christmas time and will purchase poinsettias – hoping to coordinate delivery with cakes/hams delivery. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with this act of kindness.
