Past Pres Dave Andrews Rotary District 7070 Friendship Day at Parkwood Estate September 8 from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm with optional tours planned afterward. Mike McGovern, Chair of Rotary International's PolioPlus Program is our guest speaker, at our luncheon, who will provide the very latest on Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio. Cost $75.00 per person, with a portion of the ticket price going to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund and will be credited to your next Paul Harris Fellow Award. There will be a luncheon and a cash bar on the grounds at Parkwood. Please register here and please register as soon as possible. There is a massive amount of planning being by the Committee (Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Oshawa and Oshawa-Parkwood) and tickets sales will start to pick up as the Committee gets around to all clubs in the District in the next few weeks. Don't be left out. Spouses, guests, and prospective member are most welcome. We will be asking for Rotary volunteers to go around to our neighbouring clubs to donepropmte this event during August. Please say YES when you are asked.

Past Pres Dave AndrewsWorld Polio Day 2018 will be held right on the date, Wednesday October 24, 2018 at Durham College in the new Global Classroom of the new Centre for Collaborative Education. We will cancel our regular weekly meeting on Tuesday October 23 and urge everyone to attend this grand event. Please register at the District  next Paul Harris Fellow. your for the event will be $25 with a portion of the ticket price going to the Rotary Foundation's PolioPlus Program and will be credited to The cost as soon as possible. register as soon as you can. All of the Clubs in Durham Region have been invited and urged to WebsiteHors d'oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar. There will be a fellowship time from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm followed by a welcome from Durham College and Rotary District Governor Mary Lou Harrison. At 5:45 pm we will feed in the live stream Rotary Polio Program, live from Philadelphia this year from 6 to 6:45 pm . We will continue broadcasting live from Oshawa and the two Rotary Club Presidents from Oshawa will receive their Proclamations from the Mayor of Oshawa, and the 10 Rotary Club Presidents and District Governor Mary Lou Harrison will receive their Proclamations from the Chair of the Regional Municipality of Durham. Dr. Bob Scott, the immdeiate Past Chair of the Rotary International PolioPlus Committee will bring us up to date and hoepfully , bring in some of his associates from the Polio stricken countries , again, live. Questions and answers will follow and then an after party, finishing at 9 pm. The entire event will be available , by computer , through a URL for any Rotary Club to view. In addition, the broadcast will be sent live all over the world to the colleges and universities on the Durham College Global Classroom network.

Past Pres Hilda FinniganAug 11 is our Rotary BBQ at the home of Robert and Caroline Kipling. 2 pm to about 7 pm. There is a sign up list going around. Be sure to get on that list. Cost is $15 per couple for a BBQ steak (if you prefer chicken, please indicate). Also you will be asked to bring salads or desserts, etc.

Kim Boatman has asked anyone who is interested in serving on the Community and Vocational Service Committee to let Kim know, with an email, as soon as you can. There will be a Committee meeting on August 21 at 5:15 pm. Kim hopes that last year's Community and Vocational Service Committee members ( Janice Coupland as Chair, also Sonya, Sandy, Sue, Chidinma, Hilda , Kris, Robbie, Robert Kipling, Myles and Tim) will stay on for another year. Please confirm with Kim as soon as you can.

Kim Boatman – announced that there will be a Youth Services Committee meeting on August 14 starting at 5:15 pm. If you are interested in joining this committee, please send Sonya or Kim an email as soon as possible. Kim and Sonya hope that last year's Youth Services Committee member ( Chidinma, Pat, David Penney, David Mankiewicz, and Lennis) will stay on for another year. Please confirm with Kim and Sonya as soon as you can.

Past DG Ted Morrison – Read a very nice thank you card from Jack and Carol Freethy of the El Cerrito Rotary Club (located about 10 minutes north of downtown Oakland, California .

They really enjoyed their stay in Toronto and the warm Canadian hospitality, especially at our Home Hospitality at Parkwood. They actually gave their report to their club, which meets at the Berkley Country Club , as speakers, on July 26, on their time at the Rotary International Convention.

Past Pres Lennis Trotter – Kids Safety Village Board and Committee Meeting on Aug 13 at the Village at 5:30 pm

Past Pres Lennis Trotter – met with Devon Biddle last week and they are putting together the Ways and Means for Fundraising Committee with the goal to raise more funds for our projects. They are looking at having the Chairs of the existing Fundraising Projects serve on this committee, as a starting point.

Past Pres Lennis TrotterSept 22 is the Kids Safety Village Grand Re-opening, from 10:30 to about 2 pm. We would like as many Rotarians out as possible to our signature project's big event of the year.

Past President Robbie – His Bingo team is on duty this Saturday at the Red Barn from 4:30 to after 10 pm.

ATTENTION TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS: AS SOON AS YOU HAVE YOUR COMMITTEES IN PLACE, PLEASE SEND THE NAMES OF THE COMMITTEE CHAIR, VICE-CHAIR AND MEMBERS TO DAVE ANDREWS SO THAT WE CAN UPDATE THE 2018-19 COMMITTEE CHART.

REMINDER: Pres Linda – announced that there will be a Free Swim Hosted by Rotary Club of Oshawa on August 2, 2018 at Rotary Park, Oshawa (Corner of Center St. and Gibb St.) 1:30 to 4:30. Come join in the free swim and free BBQ (hamburgers/hot dogs while supplies last).

REMINDER: Pres Linda said there are lots of events and important dates, all in our weekly calendar and on the club and District Websites. Here are just a few for you to consider helping your fellow Rotarians: August 18-20 Oshawa Ribfest; Aug 20 – Brighton Corn Roast and BBQ; Sept 8 – District 7070 Friendship Day in Oshawa

REMINDER: Treasurer Devon Biddle announced that our annual club dues invoice will be sent to us by email. $210 for the year (may be paid now or one half now and one half Jan 1, 2019). On the invoice , there will be a voluntary contribution of $100 for the Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund and $20 for Polio Eradication, if you so desire to pay and Devon will ensure that you get credit towards your next Paul Harris Fellow Award. Spouses may pay $165 annual dues for their membership, as long as one spouse pays the $210. You can start paying next week at the front Registration Desk, when you come in to the meeting. Invoices will be emailed shortly.

REMINDER: President Linda announced that the Rotary Club of Brighton is having their annual Corn Roast and Karaoke Night, on Aug 20 at 5 pm, at the Comunity Hall, 75 Elizabeth Street in Brighton. Cost is $10 with a cash bar. See Preident Linda if you are going to attend so that you can register.

SERGEANT AT ARMS REPORT: Sonya Thompson

Sonya– Happy to have her family from all over the place(Florida and Calgary) with her this week. Lots of family fun.

Dan Pantaleo - Very happy to be here at our Rotary club meeting. The best part of the day. His daughter is now a citizen of New Zealand and he is ready to travel and see Rotary in New Zealand. His niece married a Brazilian and now he can visit Rotary clubs in Brazil too.

Past DG Ted – On Saturday, April 4, he will be lawn bowling in the Gold Cup Tournament , here in Oshawa, for the 50th year in a row. This Cup has been presented every year since 1939 and was once called the McLaughlin Gold Cup. Teams will be coming from all over Ontario to try and win this Gold Cup. Many Canadian Lawn Bowling Champions have won this Gold Cup on their way to the Championships.

Kim - glad that her son Alex, will be here on Saturday for a visit, from Vancouver. And a very warm welcome to Colin Carrie and Eric Guernsey.

Robert Kipling– He and Caroline had a wonderful vacation in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He was able to visit the Rotary Club of Melfort, Saskatchewan . They raise a great deal of money in the community for a very small sized community. He brought back some good ideas for fundraising that he will be sharing with our Club over the next while.

Ab Gilbert – from the Oshawa Rotary Club – is a great grandfather

David Penney – Happy to confess that he did not have his Rotary pin on and hope that everyone in the same situation would also donate a dollar.

Hilda – Enjoyed the buffet tonight. And a very warm welcome to Colin Carrie and Eric Guernsey.

Sandy– Happy to be launching a brand new look to The Oshawa Express starting Wednesday, August 1. One inch shorter in length but a lot more pages. And anew three-page feature article every week called “The Fourth Estate” (Bulletin Editor's note: It is Excellent)

Linda – Happy she could switch her Bingo nights.
