HAPPY TOONIES

Janice - thanked everyone for coming to the Generals Game. Everyone had a great time as we saw the Generals win their final game of the regular season. Thank you to Kim and Sandy and Oshawa Express for offering our Rotary Club the suite for the evening. Jan sai we had just enough money to cover our food costs and enough left over to donate $45 to our club as Happy Bucks tonight.

Dave Penney – Going to Peru and Ecuador. Had to get Dr certificate for the travel. He checked with our resident Peruvian traveler, Robert Kipling, but the Doctor still charge $10 for the paperwork.

Peter Dueck – glad to be back at the Club. He is feeling better and was on vacation in Uruguay.

Dan Pantaleo – happy to have helped out with the Eastview Boys and Girls Club of Durham Region and Pam Deveaux, who spoke to our Rotary Club . Dan helped with the March break program.

Bob Stewart – He went out on Saturday night and came home to a racoon a tree adjacent to their house. He put up wire meshing to no avail. Racoon still there. So he added more wire mesh and hops it is gone.

Robbie Larocque – His daughter turns 13 tomorrow. Life changes for Robbie forever.

Devon  -  the family had a terrific holiday on Maui and wore his traditional new aloha tie . Whenever he goes on vacation, he buys a new tie. Very colourful. ALOHA !!

Terry Giles – very glad to be with us again, and invited all of us to his 90th birthday reception on Friday, May 3 at the Armouries (Ontario Regiment) Officers Mess, on Simcoe St N at 5 pm. (Note: Dave A talked with Terry’s daughter Lynn. She is expecting some of our members to attend. )

GUEST SPEAKER:

Dave Andrews – Topic: “The 2019 Reverse Draw – A Team Effort and YOU Are On The Team”

Dave Andrews, on behalf of the Reverse Draw, Dinner and Silent Auction Committee, briefed the members of the club on the details of the Gala evening on May 9, 2019, just 6 weeks away.

Here is the reason why we have a Reverse Draw …. To raise funds as much money as possible so that we can contribute to our community, youth, vocational, and international service projects; to The Rotary Foundation, to PolioPlus, so that WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF PEOPLE LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.

This really is a team effort and we need every member’s help to make this a huge success in 2019.

The Committee: Chairs Robbie and Kim. Committee Members: Larry, Devon, Mike, Kris, Jan, Sandy, Bob Koski, Ted, and Dave A.

Our Goal: Just $ 1 more than we did last year.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

Last year we netted $17,400. In 2017 and 2016, we netted $13,000.

Last year, our net came from $ 7,800 form the Silent Auction and $9,600 from the Draw

Last year we sold 197 tickets (29 of which were table tickets , sold by Janice and her committee in record time).

Silent Auction Items: Last year , we had over 90 items… a record number. Again this year we will publicize the item and the name of the business who donated them on Facebook and our website. Be sure to take a look at our Facebook Page event and our Club Website.

When you have a silent auction item, please send the following to Dave: a photo of the item; retail price; description of the item; name address  phone website of the business who donated the ite, Keep the item until Ted gets back and give it to him. All of the info to Dave so we can get them publicized. 90 items last year. Can we get to 120 this year.

Sponsors: ONE category this year. $1,500 PLATINUM SPONSOR: They get 8 tickets into the drum and 8 dinners , their banner in the room, a full page ad in the program, special acknowledgement and remarks they can say at the dinner. And lots of publicity on Facebook and on our Website. If you have a prospect, please let Robbie and Kim know as soon as you can.

Tools our members can use: you have the sample letter to get sponsors, ticket buyers and silent auction donators. You have a list of last year’s ticket buyers and also last year’s silent auction items and donors for everyone to use as a reminder. You have a poster you can use to put up in your place of work, or in places that you frequent enticing the public to buy tickets to the Draw, Dinner, Silent Auction Gala.

Committee Setup:

Janice – meal and room set up; and table tickets

Larry and Dave – Draw set up

Mike, Hilda and Al - briefcase

Devon - Cashiers

Dave A, Kris and Terry DeYoung - Registration / Front Desk

Ted and Dave - VIP’s – Rotary

Kim and Lennis - VIP’s – Community Leaders – Mayors, MP’s MPP’s, Councilors, Region Officials, DC. UOIT

Note: If you wish to assist the committee, volunteers are very welcome, especially the night of the event

Ticket Sales: This year $150 each. This allows for a larger profit per ticket and larger tax receipt. Of the 168 tickets, 130 were with meals and 58 were without meals.

If you know your buyer is not attending, put “No meal” on the back of the ticket stub. Very important.

If there is a vegetarian meal request, please indicate this on the back of the ticket.

On behalf of the Committee, we thank each and every one of you for your efforts to make this the biggest and best first class event we have ever had.
