GUEST SPEAKER :

Kim Boatman , our Director of Community Service introduced our four guests from the Navy League Canada : Cadets Tobin and Ban, Lt. Trumble and Lt. Blakmeyer. In the 2016-17 Rotary Year, our Rotary Club assisted the Navy League of Canada with $500, towards the purchase of a new door for their building. Our Rotary Club was presented with a plaque as a token of their appreciation.

President Ted Morrison then presented some of his plans and objective for the 2017-18 Rotary year. Here are a few of his remarks:

  • Rotary, fun and fellowship!

  • Everyone should be on three committees of interest

  • Our club has a new Strategiclanning Committee ( Dave A., Devon , Sue and Ted) and we will be working on iour very first Strategic Plan for our rotary Club

  • Membership Challenge: he said that we need young members, ask your friends. He asked our newer club members, in particular, and challenged them to bring a friend. We will continue with our “Strive For Five”

  • each committee chair should be keeping the number of volunteer hours which will be recorded into Rotary Club Central. It will be recorded by project type. Be sure to see our progress when you log into MyRotary and visit Rotary Club Central for our Rotary Club

  • Highway of Heros Tribute– partnership; a major initiative for our Rotary club to help the environment and honour our military culminating next April when we will be able to help with the planting of trees along the Highway of heroes - one tree of each fallen solder, 117,000. be sure to check out: www.hohtribute.ca for more details

  • Ted would like to see us do a Kids Against Hunger Canada project – pack meals for 42,000 see: http://www.kahcanada.org/

  • we can't let our guard down and we must renew our commitment to Rotary Polio eradication. Six new cases in 2017; challenged us to come up with a fundraiser just for PolioPlus. See: https://my.rotary.org/en/take-action/end-polio

  • Ted reminded us all of the Rotary Foundation Walk on Sunday, September 10. Bring your family, friends and pets. There will be a meal to enjoy. Let’s have a good turnout . See: http://rotary7070.org/event/2017-district-7070-rotary-foundation-walk/

  • Ted encouraged all of us to registed today for the District toto Conference in Niagara – November 3 and 4. Friday is fellowship and Saturday is the conference where we break into groups.   • Ted reminded us all of the Rotary International Convention in Toronto June - 27 , 2018. We are the hosts and we need volunteers. It is going to be spectacular! Attend or volunteer! Six hotels are already sold out. The price climbs as we get closer to the convention. See: www.riconvention.org
