ANNOUNCEMENTS

Past President Lennis Trotter:

There will be a meeting of the Kids Safety Village Board and Committee on Monday July 31 from 7 to 9 pm at the Kids Safety Village. In addition Terry Johnston will be there at 5:30 pm to bring the Board and the committee up to speed on the plans for the 2017 Festival of Lights Program at the Village in late November / early December.

From District 7070 Membership Chair, Virginia O'Reilly: It is a new Rotary year and what a great way to kick it off - the next installment of our Membership Seminar!! Let's keep the momentum going! Hear about what is working for clubs in our district, new ideas and the impact these are having on membership. Discuss what your club is doing, how it is working and discover how to make it better. On Saturday September 23rd, we are invited , from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the next installment of our Membership Seminar at Centennial College Event Centre - 6th Floor, Progress Campus, 937 Progress Ave, Scarborough, ON. President Ted:

On Wednesday, July 19, all 10 Durham Region Rotary Club Presidents and Past Presidents and Directors of Service were invited to attend a hard hat tour of the new Centre for Collaborative Edudation at Durham College. The Presdients of each club have been asked for their assistance to make a “Rotary” donation of $150,000 over 3 years from the 10 Rotary Clubs in Durham Region, collectively and also receive “Rotary” recognition for one of the rooms, and get each club name on their honour wallin the new facility . More details will follow soon. Until that time , be sure to go to the Durham College wesite and see this new facility which will be completed in April 2018 and open for the fall 2018 semester. See:

President Ted:

Reminded us all that last week , we receievd our annual invoice to pay our Rotary dues for 2017-18. Our DUES ARE DUE. He also reminded us of the voluntary contributions on the bottom of the invoice to the Annual Programs Fund of The Rotary Foundation and the $20 contribution to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Campaign. Our Treasurer Devon Biddle will look after seeing that you receive your recognition points for your next Paul Harris Fellow Award and also your tax receipt for the two Rotary Foundation donations.

Past President Dave, Vice President Linda and Ted, have reviewed the By Laws of our Rotary Club, with particular emphasis to the recent changes in the Standard Club Constitution passed at the 2016 Council on Legislation. The By Laws will be reviewed by he Board and at a future meeting, will be presented to all of the Club members.

By a show of hands, it seemed almost unanimous that we cancel our October 31 Regular Club Meeting at the Oshawa Golf Club. Happy Halloween everyone. The Golf Club has been notified.

President Ted:

Announced that the Kids Safety Village had been vandalized to the tune of about $10,000 damage. Lennis said there were three occurrences and that they will be reviewing the security.

Reminder from Past President Hilda:

Be sure to sign up for the Aug 19 BBQ at the Biddles' cottage on Aug 19 from 2 to 8 pm. And please let Hilda know what you intend to bring in the way of salad, dessert or munchies.

  • Lennis - happy that he went shopping with Esther on her birthday at American Girl

  • Hilda -passed around the Aug 19 bbq picnic sign up and pot luck list and also called many of our friends of Rotary to see if they were coming to the BBQ at the Biddles cottage. Donna Clark said that Vivian is not well; Jean Keys still has her problems and Jean Giles is at extendicare and Terry is not well

  • Peter Dueck – has hid an operation and his nose is okay

  • Emmy Iheme – had a great time with his whole family at the Argo game on Monday night at BMO Field

  • Janice and Sonya - both concerned about Jamie whose mom is not well

  • Stanley – very happy to see his honourable Chief here tonight. Stan is on the Police Auxillary

  • Dave Mankiewicz – happy his son now has his G1 license

  • Bob Koski – enjoyed going to the Blue Jay game with his friend – Level One, 3rd base , suasage and beer - in heaven- except the Jays lost 15 to 3
