R Emily introduced Karen:
 
Karen has been a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society since 2003. Her husband died from cancer in 2002 and ahw started by selling daffodils. Karen  joined the Belleville Relay For Life organizing committee in 2004 holding several roles as well as chairing the event for 5 years. She also chaired the Brighton Relay For Life for probably 5 years. She held the position of Volunteer President for the Hastings Prince Edward and Brighton Community office for 10 years. She has also lost a brother to  cancer and have a sister and sister-in.-law both living with cancer. Her team is "P S I Love You" and is registered for the newly formed Bay of Quinte Relay For Life.
 
 
 
 
Karen thanks Brighton Rotary for our continued support for Relay for Life, in particular the Luminairy sponsor for many years.
 
This year they are going back live, all across the country on the same date, Saturday June 11 from 2pm to 11pm at Loyalist College.
 
The Belleville Cancer office was closed so no local staff. Even supplies stored in Toronto and has to be brought back for the event.
 
Karen's role this year is Corporate Engagement.
 
The Rotary Club of Stirling has committed to be a Luminary sponsor with Brighton and Trenton has also been asked.
 
The former Brighton, Quinte West, Belleville and Prince Edward County committees have amalgamated to form the Bay of Quinte Relay for Life.
 
Karen has her team registered, 'PS I Love You' with already over $5,000 raised.
 
Cancer impacts us all. The daffodil is a symbol of Hope.
 
Karen shared some statistics about what the Cancer Society has done with the funds raised, the services, programs and support provided to people as well as research.
 
COVID forced them to create Webinars for people to learn about cancer.
 
There Wheels of Hope transportation program has 58 volunteer drivers but not enough. They recently got a boost with the donation of Van from the Parrott Foundation that will be a big help.
 
Lodges are provided to allow people to stay closer to the treatment centres.
 
They are working hard across Canada.
