Ring of the Bell: The “African Queen” opened our St. Patrick’s Day party before a lively crowd. The green table decorations were stunning thanks to Marie Galbo. Kathy announced: John F. Germ is the Rotary International President and his theme is: “Rotary Serving HUMANITY”.

Greeter: Dennis Garrison, beautifully decked out in his best Irish attire, startled us with: “God created whisky so the Irish would never lead the world”.

Patriotic Song: Don Jones led us in “God Bless America”. With no visiting Rotarians it was time for the corned beef and cabbage.
Announcements:

The friday before they will host a Community Cultural Fair complete with booths, performances and raffle baskets. We are all invited to The Habit fundraiser on March 29, 4:00 to 9:00 PM. In April, they with will assist with the Sunny Glen Smoke Alarm project.

Award Winners:  Chris Gayler requests input. The decisions will be made by May.

Wheelchairs: Kathy Gaily will be traveling to Argentina and Uganda this June. If you are thinking of going along let her know of your interest.

Demotion Dinner: will be held the last Thursday in May.
Student of the Month: Colette Lay was so impressed with Ellen Lyons’ fund raising project that she actually nominated her for California High Student of the Month. Ellen observed water filling stations at other schools and decided Cal High should have them also, so she started a very successful fund raising effort. These stations, made by Flowater, are a vast improvement over drinking fountains that were never designed for the refilling of water bottles. If you would like to help with her excellent project the website is: www.gofundme.com/flowater-cal

Trinity Center: April 6 we meet at Trinity Center. The plan is to provide at least 50 Care Kits for homeless shelters.  Plenty of good Mexican Food for all attendees.

Smoke Alarm: April 22. Sign-up sheets were passed around.

On a Serious Note: We were advised Steve Wilcox’s wife is experiencing a significant health issue. Your beneficent thoughts and prayers will be much appreciated. www.caringbridge.org.

Rotary Foundation Minute: Every year Rotary selects 100 professionals from around the world to receive Rotary Peace Fellowships for study at Rotary Peace Centers.  Master’s Degree programs last 15 to 24 months and require an internship.  The Professionals Development Certificate is for experienced professionals and lasts three months with two to three weeks of field study.

St. Patrick’s Day Program: Sid, a well known comedian, who posed as Sid “O’Malley” for the day’s events, entertained us with his comparisons of East Indians and the Irish. It seems they both have mixed feelings about the English, and have independent, emotionally distant fathers who love them unconditionally, but won’t ever tell them. Sid is a local boy who attended Archbishop Mitty in Cupertino. He has performed his comedy routines all over the world. His parents wanted him to attend law school and quit comedy, but obviously he followed his true calling.

Raffle: Mike Prilutski won a bottle of Bushnell’s and Ana won some books. No one picked the right color marble so the Progressive is now worth $160.00
