Last week we had Larry from Coastal Volunteers in Medicine come in and discuss what their organization is and how they benefit the community. Coastal VIM provides primary healthcare and mental health services to people who cannot afford health insurance but do not qualify for federal assistance.
Coastal Volunteers of Medicine consists of a couple main clerical positions and a large network of volunteers that range from doctors, nurse practitioners, and clerical staff. As put on their website, "The 'Culture of Caring' is the heart and soul of our clinic. It is based on an ethical standard in medicine. We believe that how people are treated during a visit to the clinic is as important as the medical care they receive. We respect the diversity or our local population, regardless of race, national origin, religion, employment, or any other status. We practice treatment with respect and dignity in a nurturing and non-judgmental environment."
