Our club’s new Film Group led by Anne Fairhall has picked “My Brilliant Career” by Australian director Gillian Armstrong as its first film for discussion at its meeting Wednesday 10am August 12.  Other cast are the iconic Judy Davis (pictured left), Sam Neill & Wendy Hughes.  Anne advises we can view the film via ABC iView. You can also search and play it via YouTube. Here's a sample of it.
We’ve allocated roles including promotion of our group, compiling of a master list of potential films, background notes on each film and coordination. Our group member Susan Bowers has spent a lifetime in the film/TV industry and is a huge asset to our team.

Meanwhile the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) launches this Friday August 7, entirely on-line. One of our members has already become a member ($65), bought a bundle of 13 international films ($98), and cherry-picked another half dozen from the big catalogue (about $12 each).  The discounts through the MIFF membership virtually made the membership cost free. To join this extravaganza of the world’s great films, go to miff.com.au, create an account  and sort out what films you want.. In general, you have 30 hours to watch a given film, from the time you click “go” on it. You can watch your films from 11am Friday 7/8 until mid Sunday 23/8. The opening film First Cow is sold out (boo-hoo). Got questions? They’re all answered here.
