District Governors (DGs) provide leadership, inspiration, and guidance to Rotary clubs under the general supervision of the Rotary International Board of Directors. In each jurisdiction or district, the Governor serves as the regional officer of Rotary, fostering success in their district at the club level.
Across the globe, Rotary Districts fluctuate in size and geography. District 5340 spans all of San Diego and Imperial Counties, as well as a portion of Riverside County.
The District Governor is nominated by the Clubs in their district to represent Rotary International. The District Governor is selected by a nominating committee, usually chaired by the Immediate Past District Governor. That committee is responsible for publicizing the nomination process, reviewing all applicants for the position, and then communicating the results of the selection process to members of the District.
Each District Governor serves a one year term, but that individual often fills many roles in the lead-up to year as serving as District Governor.
In advance of their year, each District Governor will appoint Assistant Governors to assist in managing activities in the District, and to help facilitate projects that involve multiple clubs.
