Winemaking 101

A new class, taught by Katherine Heisler, designed specifically for new winemakers!

This class will follow the flow of the wine, and allow new winemakers to learn each stage, with full explanations of the how and why of winemaking.  There will be a tasting session (or two) as well!

Katherine will be available the first Saturday to meet students at What Ale’s Ya and help you choose the wine kit right for you.  The formal classes will start the next Monday – 3 pm – 6 pm where we will start the wines and pitch the yeast.  Two weeks later we will rack and degas the wine, and the next day we will clear the wine.  Then, depending on your kit, the next session may be 8 days later or a little longer.  Some wines will be bottled at the end of 4 weeks, some at 5 weeks, and some at 6 weeks.  Ideally, the first Saturday will be January 19, with the class starting January 21.

Space for this class is extremely limited!  We will allow 8 kits and a maximum of 2 people per kit.  You may make a batch of wine on your own, or share it with a friend.

Katherine is an internationally award winning winemaker, and in fact was awarded “The most award winning winemaker in Western Canada” by Winexpert.
