An Update from WCE President Chava Wu on City Council Developments

Monday evening, the City Council voted 7-0 to allow the City Manager and staff to begin negotiations with parties interested in purchasing the parking lot that is adjacent to the Clubhouse and commonly referred to as the “library parking lot”. The Council reported that several parties recently approached the city expressing interest in developing the lot. The vote allows City staff to begin discussions and explore possible options.

Several WCE leaders attended the Administration and Public Works meeting as well as the City Council meeting on Monday, July 11. At both meetings, I shared concerns raised by and on behalf of the WCE Board of Directors including, but not limited to, traffic/congestion, parking, the ability of our building to withstand construction/development and the historic nature of our Clubhouse. Other community members also spoke. The public was informed by various members of the Council that community concerns will be addressed as part of the review of the various proposals.

This is the beginning of a process. The City will likely share additional information with the public as it becomes available.
