Dave’s Bejarano's bio:

  • Served with the US Marine Corps for 3 years, followed by a 35 year law enforcement career – 25 years with SDPD, including five years as Chief of Police
  • Served as the US Marshal for the Southern District of CA for three years (appointed by President Bush)
  • Police Chief, Chula Vista PD for 7 1/2 years
  • Past President of the CA Police Chiefs Assn. and the SD County Chiefs and Sheriff’s Assn.
  • Trustee for the Chula Vista Elementary School District
  • Have served and continue to serve on national, state and local boards

 

Betty J. Mohlenbrock, M. Ed., Founder & President

Betty J. Mohlenbrock, M.Ed. is an educator, reading specialist, Founder and CEO (Retired) of United Through Reading, and Founder and President of Reading Legacies (her current endeavor).

Betty’s numerous awards include The Congressional Medal of Honor Society Community Service Hero Award 2016 for United Through Reading, LEAD San Diego Visionary Award 2012, Traditional Home publication’s “The Classic Woman Award”, University of Illinois Alumni Humanitarian Award 2008, Coronado Legend Award 2008, the Peter Drucker Award for Non- Profit Innovation 2006, the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal of Honor, a national award given to a person who has made unusual and lasting contributions to our American heritage, and the George Washington Honor Medal from Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, an organization that promotes the education of youth about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Betty has extensive experience in the areas of management, fundraising, and program strategies based on her experience with international programs as well as her integrity and wise stewardship of millions of dollars contributed by community members.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, as well as a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialty in teaching Reading. Both degrees are from the University of Illinois.
