Sharon Carlson began her career as an Emergency Department nurse. She is currently the Director of Emergency Disaster Preparedness for Sharp HealthCare, where she has worked for 32 years.  She transitioned from Emergency Department nursing to the emergency preparedness field in 1999. In addition, Sharon Carlson has taught nurses, paramedics and emergency medical technicians. 

 

Her current role is to assure Sharp HealthCare is prepared to respond to the health care needs of the community in the event of a disaster. She serves on several county and state disaster planning committees, including the California Statewide Medical and Health Exercise design team, the California Department of Health Joint Advisory Committee on Emergency Preparedness, and the California Department of Health Emergency Management Advisory Committee. Sharon also chairs the San Diego County Emergency Medical Care Disaster Operations Committee.
