CLUB NEWS
Wednesday's Speaker - Doug S. Staley, Executive Director, Child Protection Center, Inc.

The focus of the Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) is Child Abuse: Prevention, Intervention and Treatment. CPC envisions a community in which children are safe from abuse and free to thrive.  Doug's topic is a perfect fit to our Club's mission.  This is an opportunity to understand the current state of child abuse in Sarasota County and the State of Florida.

Book Buddies -  The children's book request letters (and their excellent drawings) have been sent to buddies.  Purchased books are due at the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) by November 18th.  Save the postage and bring your books to the November 16th meeting for transport to the ELC.   If you were expecting a book request letter and have not received one, please contact Project Chair Matt Anderson.

The annual Veteran's Day Breakfast November 11th, sponsored by the Downtown Club.  Is always a memorable event, especially for veterans and family members.  Contact Carolyn Kofler of you missed the sign-up.

Food Drive Kick-Off - Food Drive Chair Marianna Ehmke, has designated Wednesday November 9th as our annual Food Drive's official Kick-Off.  Please read the Feature Story below and bring your first donation Wednesday.  We know how to do this, let's get-it-done.

Bowls of Hope - Marianna Ehmke "suggests" that members attend the Bowls of Hope event at Ed Smith Stadium on November 13th, 11:00 am to 2:00 PM.  Go to the Bowls of Hope web page to reserve for the event.  This continues our Club's support for All Faiths Food Bank.

Kettle Duty Saturday December 10th - Chair Joe Sikora asks that you take an hour Saturday December 10th and report for "Kettle Duty" at the Landings Publix. Choose your time slot and sign up at Wednesday's meeting or contact Joe directly.

FOOD DRIVE
My, my, my how time flies when you are having fun. The month of October, which Marianna gave us off from bring food is done and gone.

The holidays will be here before we know it and yes the kids need food.  Marianna is asking us to bring food that we would have at our own Thanksgiving Dinner, eg:  sweet potatoes, green beans, regular potatoes, gravy mix or canned, cream of mushroom soup, onions, dressing fixings and don’t forget the fixings for the pies.  Any heavy food will be appreciated.

Then after Thanksgiving there is Christmas, then after Christmas as Marianne has said before, “The kids still have to eat”.  So please check your pantries for extra cans or jars and take advantage of the BOGO’s. Our goal is way over a ton this year.

Thank you all in advance for all you contribute.
